Business Development Director – Defence Sector
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Business Development Director to shape growth within the Defence sector, perfect for a dynamic leader who excels in securing high-value, complex opportunities.
The ideal candidate will spearhead strategic business development, foster enduring client relationships, and drive revenue growth through innovative digital and technology-led solutions. The role requires collaboration with delivery, marketing, legal, and commercial teams to execute scalable growth plans deliver tangible customer value.
Key Responsibilities
Drive Business Growth & Revenue Generation
- Develop and implement sector-specific growth strategies aligned with ambitious targets
- Build, manage, and nurture a high-value pipeline of opportunities across existing and prospective clients
- Accurately forecast sales performance and revenue for future quarters
- Exceed targets in sales, revenue, and profitability
Lead Strategic Pursuits
- Create and execute targeted account plans for key stakeholders
- Lead complex bids, coordinating cross-functional teams to win major contracts
- Identify new market entries and expansion opportunities
Become a Trusted Client Advisor
- Deeply understand client priorities, pain points, and transformation goals
- Apply consultative techniques to deliver measureable value via digital and technology solutions
- Embed credibility and trust across all client engagement levels

Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven Defence sector expertise, including procurement, commercial frameworks, and opportunity management
- Track record of winning multi-million-pound contracts in competitive environments
- Experience driveing revenue growth via strategic account plans
- Strong commercial acumen, with experience in complex pricing, proposals, and contracts
- Exceptional stakeholder management and C-level presentation skills
- Extensive networking and the ability to build trusted, long-term relationships
- Broad tech and digital transformation knowledge with impact on Defence and public sector
- Fluent in digital solutions and technology-enabled value propositions
- Outstanding negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to balance aggression with commercial judgment in fast-paced environments
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring high-performing teams
Desirable Experience
- Minimum five years in digital transformation, tech consulting, or managed services
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and modern software delivery frameworks
- Integration experience with tech delivery teams to shape customer solutions
