Director of Communications & External Affairs

Salary: Up to £125,000 depending on experience Location: Home-Based with regular travel to offices Basis: Permanent, Full-Time

What you’ll be doing

  • Setting the direction for all internal and external communications
  • Leading our brand and reputation, making sure everything we say reflects who we are
  • Owning crisis and issues management, guiding us through complexity with confidence
  • Building influential relationships across political, regional and sector networks
  • Driving engaging internal communications that support change and bring people with us
  • Acting as our senior spokesperson, representing Platform with credibility and impact
  • Leading a high-performing team, creating a culture where people can bring their best

What you’ll bring

  • You’ll be an experienced, strategic leader who knows how to operate at pace and at scale.
  • A strong track record in senior communications, PR or external affairs roles
  • Experience in complex or regulated environments (housing experience is a bonus)
  • Deep expertise in reputation and crisis management
  • A natural ability to influence and build trusted relationships
  • Strong political awareness and sound judgement
  • Experience leading communications through change
  • A leadership style that’s collaborative, inclusive and empowering
  • CIPR or CIM qualification is desirable.

Where you’ll be based

This is a home-based role, with regular travel (typically 2–3 days per week), mainly to Solihull and across our operating areas. You’ll need to be ready to travel at short notice when needed.
