Construction Director – £145,000 Base + Package – Exeter, Devon
The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Construction Director to join a well-established and growing residential developer based in Exeter, Devon, also open to relocators.
Delivering approximately 300 traditionally built homes per annum across the South West, our business has built an excellent reputation for quality, customer satisfaction and sustainable growth. As we continue to expand our development portfolio, we are seeking a commercially minded construction leader to drive operational excellence across multiple live developments.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will lead the construction function, ensuring all projects are delivered safely, on programme, within budget and to the highest standards of quality and customer care.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Construction Department across multiple residential developments.
- Ensure the safe, efficient and profitable delivery of circa 300 homes annually.
- Develop, mentor and inspire Construction Managers, Contracts Managers, Site Managers and wider site teams.
- Drive programme performance whilst maintaining exceptional build quality.
- Work collaboratively with the Commercial, Technical, Land, Planning and Sales teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
- Oversee construction budgets, labour resources and subcontractor performance.
- Champion Health & Safety, ensuring full compliance across all sites.
- Monitor construction KPIs, build programmes, customer satisfaction and quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and key stakeholders.
- Support strategic business planning and contribute to the continued growth of the business.

About You
We are looking for a proven senior construction professional with extensive experience working for a recognised residential developer.
You will have:
- Significant experience as a Construction Director, Head of Construction, Regional Construction Manager or Senior Contracts Manager.
- A strong background delivering traditional brick and block housing for volume housebuilders or residential developers.
- Experience managing multiple live developments simultaneously.
- A track record of delivering homes safely, on time and within budget.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to influence project profitability.
- Excellent leadership, communication and people management skills.
- A collaborative management style with the ability to motivate high-performing teams.
- In-depth knowledge of NHBC standards, Building Regulations and current Health & Safety legislation.
- A passion for quality, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.
