Stafford Grammar School
Stafford Grammar School is seeking to appoint a Director of Finance & Operations at an important point in the school’s development. Working closely with the Headteacher and Governing Board, the successful candidate will provide the financial and operational leadership needed to support the school’s long-term sustainability and future direction.
This is a senior leadership appointment with responsibility for both the strategic and operational management of the school’s business functions.
The School
Stafford Grammar School is a well-established independent co-educational day school for pupils aged 3–19.
The school has an excellent reputation for academic achievement, pastoral care, music, sport and the breadth of opportunities it provides for its pupils.
Governors are seeking to build on these strengths and are looking for a senior leader who shares their commitment to the school’s continued success.
The Role
The Director of Finance & Operations is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership across the school’s financial and support services.

Key responsibilities include:
- Leading financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.
- Developing long-term financial models and scenario planning.
- Providing financial analysis and strategic advice to Governors and senior leaders.
- Leading estates, facilities, compliance, health and safety and operational services.
- Identifying and evaluating appropriate commercial and income generation opportunities.
- Supporting strategic planning and organisational development.
- Ensuring effective governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Leading and developing professional support staff teams.
The Person
Applications are invited from experienced senior leaders who can demonstrate:
- Significant leadership experience.
- Strong financial and commercial judgement.
- Excellent organisational and analytical skills.
- Experience leading complex operational functions.
- The ability to think strategically whilst maintaining operational excellence.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A collaborative leadership style.

Professional accountancy qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) are desirable but not essential where equivalent senior leadership experience can be demonstrated.
