Stafford Grammar School is seeking to appoint a Director of Finance and Operations to join its Executive Leadership Team. Reporting to the Headteacher and working closely with the Governing Board, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership across the school’s financial and operational functions, supporting long-term sustainability and effective organisational management.
The Role
Key responsibilities include:
- Financial strategy, planning and budgeting.
- Long-term financial forecasting and scenario planning.
- Financial reporting and advice to Governors.
- Leadership of estates, facilities, compliance and health and safety.
- Operational leadership of the school’s support services.
- Commercial development and evaluation of appropriate income opportunities.
- Governance, risk management and regulatory compliance.
- Leadership and development of professional support staff.

The Candidate
Applications are invited from experienced senior leaders who can demonstrate:
- Strong financial leadership.
- Strategic judgement.
- Experience leading complex operational functions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work effectively with Governors, senior leaders and professional advisers.
Applications are welcomed from candidates within the independent school sector and from those with relevant senior leadership experience in higher education, charities, commercial organisations and the wider public sector. Professional accountancy qualifications (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) are desirable but not essential where equivalent experience can be demonstrated.
