Lead our Financial Transformation

Trafford is a great place to live, work, learn and visit. A borough with strong communities, a proud cultural and sporting heritage, and a key role within Greater Manchester’s economic future. Our vision is simple and ambitious: a borough where all our residents, businesses and communities thrive. To achieve this, we are working across services and with partners to maximise the use of resources, close inequality gaps and utilise the borough’s potential. However, increasing demand pressures and costs mean that it is becoming increasingly challenging to deliver the services our residents deserve with the resources we have available.

Role Overview

As Director of Finance, you will report to the Chief Executive and play a central role in Trafford’s corporate leadership team. You will provide clear and trusted financial advice to the Executive, Committees, elected Members and senior officers, and contribute to Greater Manchester finance discussions through the GM Treasurers Group, helping the Council make lawful, transparent and sustainable decisions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
