Director of IT Operations
# IT & OT Services Director
Location: Portsmouth
Work Arrangement: Hybrid Base Salary: Competitive (dependent on skills and qualifications).

Job Purpose
Provide strategic and operational leadership for:
- All IT and Operational Technology (OT) services across the organisation.
- Secure, resilient, and high-performing technology services supporting:
- Business operations
- Regulatory obligations
- Critical national infrastructure
Overlay day-to-day IT business continuity and crisis management, whilst driving service excellence, transformation, and continuous improvement.

Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and fully execute the IT & OT strategy, ensuring technology supports business objectives and maximises operational performance.
- Lead delivery of IT change, transformation, and service improvement programmes across:
- Infrastructure
- Applications
- End-user services
- Guarantee availability, resilience, and performance of all IT & OT services 24/7, 365 days a year.
- Collaborate deeply with Cyber, Transformation, and business leaders to deliver strategic priorities and optimise technology capabilities.
- Oversee SGN’s IT core delivery programmes, including:
- Development, Testing, and Support Services Framework
- Ensuring third parties deliver high-quality outputs on time and budget across scope
- Continued IT Service transformation & automation (Service Management, Service Desk, and End-User Services).
- Strategic alignment with Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Security Operations Centre (SOC) to mitigate threats and vulnerabilities.
- Progressive change mechanisms with business colleagues and wider ways of working.
- Development, Testing, and Support Services Framework

Financial Management and Controls
- Manage IT Operations’ operational and capital expenditure budgets, ensuring:
- Effective financial planning
- Strong governance
- Value-for-money realisation
- Oversee strategic supplier relationships & contracts to drive:
- Service excellence
- Operational efficiency
- Continuous improvement cycles
- Strict compliance with governance, cyber security, and IT service management standards.
Regulatory, Funding and Stakeholder Management
- Ensure IT & OT services align with and support:
- Regulatory obligations
- Operational goals
- Security policies
- Represent and support SGN’s:
- Regulated Investment Committee
- Cash Committee
- Other executive forums, providing:
- Identified challenges
- Reviews
- Contributions to Company performance and financial targets
- Advise the IT Leadership Team on Ofgem, DESNZ & NCSC engagements, covering:
- Oversight of cyber security risk management.
- Securing continuity between assessments for IT and OT.
- Foster trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support:
- Regulatory priorities
- Cyber security goals
- Overall business objectives
People, Talent & Skills
- Lead the IT Operations team with the conviction to:
- Develop and inspire high performance
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and inclusion
- Align organisational demand with technical capability and supply partner needs through:
- Talent development
- Strategic skills assessment
- Proactively manage technology partners to deliver:
- High-quality & resilient services

Requirements
Must demonstrate the following core competencies with substantial evidence:

Senior IT Operations leadership experience in a:
- Complex, business-critical, or 24/7 operational environment.

Proven record of:
- Developing and executing IT strategies.
- Delivering operational improvements and technology transformation programmes.

Experience leading:
- High-availability IT services supporting large-scale, mission-critical environments, with resilience and operational performance responsibilities.

Strategic financial and commercial management skills:
- Managing substantial budgets.
- Conducting strategic supplier negotiations.

Proven success in:
- Leading and developing high-performing technical teams.

Advanced knowledge of:
- IT Service Management
- Cyber Security
- Business Continuity

Alignment with leading governance frameworks:
