Director of Onshore Asset Management
Senior Director, Onshore Renewables (Portfolio Strategy & Operations) – £124,200 - £186,200/€165,600-€248,400
Base Location
50% remote flexible working from one of our key hubs: 📍 UK: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Havant, Reading, London 🇮🇪 Ireland: Belfast or Dublin (with consideration for other SSE Renewables locations)
Compensation & Benefits:
- Competitive salary: £124,200 - £186,200 (UK) or €165,600-€248,400 (IRL)

About the Role
Are you a strategic leader in renewable energy with a passion for commercial performance, operational excellence, and driving the energy transition? This is your opportunity to shape the future of onshore renewables as the Senior Director of Portfolio Strategy & Operations at SSE Renewables.
As part of SSE’s Onshore Renewables Leadership Team, you will: ✔ Lead cross-functional strategy to maximise value from our portfolio across the UK, Ireland, and Europe. ✔ Balance operational excellence with commercial success, ensuring assets deliver long-term value while supporting net zero goals. ✔ Inspire high-performing teams to drive safety, efficiency, and sustainability in operation. ✔ Leverage data, digital technologies, and AI to optimise asset performance and maintenance. ✔ Engage with Joint Venture partners, stakeholder groups, and Boards to advance growth and transformation.

Strategic & Operational Planning
- Develop short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for asset lifecycle, maintenance, and operational efficiency, balancing safety, reliability, production, and cost.
- Optimise portfolio-wide asset performance, enhancing whole-life value and lowering costs.

Commercial Growth & Risk Management
- Work with Finance, Energy Markets, Commercial, and Investment teams to maximise revenue and mitigate risks.
- Support capital investment programmes and portfolio growth/ divestment strategies.
- Represent SSE in JV governance, boards, and operational forums to drive business success.

Digital & Technological Leadership
- Champion AI, data-driven insights, and smart technologies to improve:
- Asset maintenance & forecasting
- Operational decision-making
- Fleet and production optimisation

Stakeholder & Board Contributions
- Play a key role in portfolio transformation initiatives
- Collaborate with Executive Leadership, JV partners, and regulatory bodies to guide long-term sunny futures.
What You’ll Need
Essential Criteria (Requirements)
- Senior leadership experience (C-Suite/GM/Vice President level) in:
- Onshore renewables, asset management, or related commercial operations (wind, solar, hydro preferred)
- Managing large-scale infrastructure portfolios (scalability, risk mitigation, and stakeholder management)
- Proven track record in balancing operational performance with commercial strategy, delivering ** shareholder/portfolio value**.
- Deep expertise in renewable energy markets, with an understanding of:
- Pricing mechanics (MER/REMIT)
- Market volatility risks
- Lifecycle asset economics
- Experience developing/implementing asset management, maintenance, or renewable energy strategies at scale.
- Change management & team leadership—proven ability to drive high performance through transformation.
- Excellent stakeholder management, including:
- Executive team interactions
- Joint Venture negotiations
- Regulatory and board-level discussions
- Digital savvy—passion for leveraging data analytics, AI, and IoT to enhance operational decisions.
- Alignment with SSE’s purpose: Redefining energy while enabling a net-zero transition.

Bonus (Not required but highly valued): ✅ Experience in degree renewable sources (onshore wind, solar, large scale hydro) ✅ Knowledge of FERC/NERC compliance (US regulatory overlap helpful but not mandatory) ✅ Track record in merger/acquisition integration within renewables
