Director, Onshore Renewables Performance – UK & Ireland
Base Location: You’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Havant, Reading, London, Belfast, or Dublin. Other SSE Renewables (SSER) locations can also be considered.
Salary: £124,200 – £186,200/€165,600 – €248,400 + car/car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing, and family.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full-Time | Flexible First Options Available
The Role
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for renewable energy, commercial performance, and operational excellence? This is an exciting opportunity to lead the strategic, operational, and commercial performance of SSE Renewables’ onshore renewable asset portfolio across the UK, Ireland, and Europe.
As a member of the Onshore Renewables Leadership Team, you’ll play a key role in shaping business strategy, maximising the value of the operational portfolio, and supporting ambitious growth plans. You will have overall accountability for balancing safe, reliable, and efficient operations with strong commercial performance, ensuring our assets continue to deliver long-term value while supporting the transition to net zero.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a diverse team of employees and delivery partners to:
- Operate onshore renewable assets safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
- Foster an inclusive, high-performing culture built on continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
- Develop and deliver short-, medium-, and long-term operational, maintenance, and asset lifecycle strategies that:
- Optimise safety, reliability, availability, production, and whole-life asset value.
- Drive continuous improvement across the portfolio.
- Maximise the commercial performance of the asset portfolio by:
- Balancing operational and commercial priorities.
- Collaborating closely with Finance, Energy Markets, Commercial, and Investment teams to:
- Optimise revenue streams.
- Manage risk effectively.
- Oversee significant capital investment programmes.
- Support portfolio investment and divestment decisions.
- Drive digital transformation of the asset portfolio by:
- Championing the use of data, digital technologies, and AI-enabled insights to:
- Improve asset performance.
- Enhance maintenance strategies.
- Optimise operational decision-making, forecasting, and fleet optimisation.
- Championing the use of data, digital technologies, and AI-enabled insights to:
- Represent SSE’s interests in:
- Joint Venture partnerships.
- Governance forums and Boards (where required).
- Contribute to business strategy, portfolio growth, and organisational transformation.
- Ensure the long-term success of SSE Renewables’ onshore renewables business.

Requirements
We’re looking for an experienced leader with:
- Significant senior leadership experience in:
- Asset management, operations, or a related commercial environment.
- Proven ability to balance operational performance, commercial outcomes, and long-term asset value across large, complex infrastructure portfolios.
- Strong commercial acumen, including:
- Experience managing substantial operational budgets.
- Leading capital investment programmes.
- Negotiating with suppliers and making strategic decisions that maximise portfolio performance and shareholder value.
- A deep understanding of:
- Renewable energy markets.
- Commercial drivers influencing asset performance across the asset lifecycle.
- Experience developing long-term operational, maintenance, or asset management strategies.
- Experience leading high-performing, inclusive teams through change, fostering a culture where:
- Safety, collaboration, continuous improvement, innovation, and digital adoption are embedded in daily decision-making.
- Excellent influencing, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with experience:
- Working across Executive teams, Joint Venture partnerships, and Boards.
- Leveraging digital technologies, data analytics, and AI to enhance operational performance and business outcomes.
