Director of Onshore Asset Management
Chief Operations Officer/Senior Director – Onshore Renewables Portfolio
Base Location: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Havant, Reading, London, Belfast, or Dublin (50% time allocation, with other SSE locations considered)
Salary: £124,200 - £186,200/€165,600 - €248,400 plus car allowance or company car, performance-related bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Working Pattern: Permanent | Full-Time | Flexible Working Options Available
About the Role
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for renewable energy, commercial performance, and operational excellence? This is an exciting opportunity to lead the strategic, operational, and commercial performance of SSE’s onshore renewable asset portfolio across the UK, Ireland, and Europe.
As a member of the Onshore Renewables Leadership Team, you will:
- Play a key role in shaping business strategy.
- Maximise value across the operational portfolio.
- Support SSE’s ambitious growth plans.
Your accountability will ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations aligns with strong commercial outcomes, delivering long-term value while accelerating the transition to net zero.
Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Culture Lead and inspire a diverse team of employees and partners, fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture driven by:
- Continuous improvement
- Innovation
- Operational excellence Ensure safety, efficiency, and sustainability in asset operations.

Strategic & Operational Planning Develop and execute short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for:
- Operational performance
- Maintenance
- Asset lifecycle optimisation Focus on maximising:

- Availability
- Production
- Whole-life asset value

Commercial Performance Optimisation Balance operational and commercial priorities with:
- Finance
- Energy Markets
- Commercial & Investment teams Activities include:
- Optimising revenue streams
- Managing risk
- Oversight of major capital investment programmes
- Supporting portfolio investment/divestment decisions

Required Experience & Qualifications
- Senior Leadership: Proven ability to balance operational performance, commercial outcomes, and long-term asset value across large, complex infrastructure portfolios.
- Commercial Acumen: Experience in:
- Managing substantial operational budgets
- Leading capital investment programmes
- Negotiating with suppliers and stakeholders
- Driving strategic decisions that enhance portfolio performance and shareholder value.
- Renewable Energy Expertise:
- Deep understanding of renewable energy markets and commercial drivers influencing asset lifecycle decisions.
- Experience in operational, maintenance, or asset management strategy development.
- Change Leadership:
- Ability to lead high-performing, inclusive teams through transformation and cultural shifts.
- Embed safety, collaboration, and digital adoption in decision-making.
- Business Influence & Stakeholder Management:
- Strong communicating with Executive, Joint Venture, and Board-level leaders.
- Passion for leveraging digital technologies, data analytics, and AI to improve operational and financial outcomes.
