Director of Onshore Asset Management
Senior Leadership Role: Onshore Renewables Portfolio Director
Location
You’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working time in one of the following locations: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Havant, Reading, London, Belfast or Dublin (other SSER locations may be considered).
Salary & Benefits
- Base Salary: £124,200 – £186,200 (UK) / €165,600 – €248,400 (Ireland)
- Additional Benefits: Car allowance / company car, performance-related bonus, comprehensive financial, wellbeing and family support.

About the Role
Are you an experienced leader with a passion for renewable energy, commercial performance and operational excellence? If so, this is an exciting opportunity to lead the strategic, operational and commercial performance of SSE Renewables’ onshore renewable asset portfolio across the UK, Ireland and Europe.
As a member of the Onshore Renewables Leadership Team, you’ll shape business strategy, maximise asset portfolio value and drive ambitious growth plans. You’ll be accountable for: ✔ Balancing safe, reliable, and efficient operations with strong commercial performance ✔ Ensuring long-term value delivery while supporting the transition to net zero.

- Lead and inspire diverse teams (employees, delivery partners) to operate assets safely, efficiently, and sustainably, fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture rooted in continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.

- Develop and deliver operational, maintenance, and asset lifecycle strategies to optimise:

Commercial Performance
- Maximise asset portfolio performance by aligning operational and commercial priorities.
- Collaborate with Finance, Energy Markets, Commercial, and Investment teams.
- Optimise revenue, manage risk, oversee capital investment programs.
- Support portfolio investment and divestment decisions.

- Champion the use of data, digital technologies, and AI-enabled insights to:
- Improve asset performance
- Enhance maintenance strategies
- Drive operational decision-making
- Optimise forecasting and fleet management.

Representing SSE
- Act as the principal advocate for SSE within Joint Venture partnerships, governance forums, and Boards.
- Contribute to business strategy, portfolio growth, and organisational transformation for onshore renewables.
Requirements
Leadership Experience
- Senior leadership experience in asset management, operations, or a related commercial environment.
- Proven ability to balance operational performance, commercial outcomes, and long-term asset value across large, complex infrastructure portfolios.
Commercial Acumen
- Strong experience in operational budget management, capital investment programs, supplier negotiations, and strategic decision-making to maximise shareholder value.
Renewable Energy Expertise
- Deep understanding of renewable energy markets, asset lifecycle valuations, and commercial drivers.
- Experience developing long-term operational, maintenance, or asset management strategies.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Proven ability to lead teams through change, fostering a culture of:
- Safety
- Collaboration
- Innovation
- Digital adoption
- Strong influencing, communication, and stakeholder management skills, including:
- Executing strategies with board-level executives.
- Navigating Joint Venture partnerships and governing bodies.
