Director of Onshore Asset Management

Onshore Renewables Portfolio Manager

Base Location: You’ll spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Havant, Reading, London, Belfast or Dublin (other SSER locations can also be considered).

Salary & Package: £124,200 – £186,200/€165,600–€248,400

The Role

Are you an experienced leader with a passion for renewable energy, commercial performance, and operational excellence? Join our Onshore Renewables Leadership Team to shape the strategic direction of our onshore renewable asset portfolio across the UK, Ireland and Europe, ensuring safe, efficient, and commercially astute operations while driving net-zero transitions.

In this critical role, you will:

  • Lead and inspire teams to manage onshore renewable assets safely, efficiently, and sustainably.
  • Develop and implement short-, medium-, and long-term strategies to optimise safety, reliability, maintenance, and asset lifecycle value.
  • Maximise commercial performance through active collaboration with key teams (Finance, Energy Markets, Commercial, and Investment).
  • Drive digital transformation using data, AI, and smart technologies for predictive analytics, fleet optimisation, and decision-making.
  • Represent SSE in joint venture partnerships and governance forums while steering collaborative growth.

Your Responsibilities

Key priorities include:

  • Portfolio Leadership & Culture:

    • Lead a diverse operational team while fostering an inclusive, high-performing culture built on continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence.
  • Asset Performance & Maintenance:

    • Establish tailormade operational, maintenance, and asset lifecycle strategies to improve availability, production, and efficiency.
  • Commercial & Financial Management:

    • Align operational and commercial objectives, manage high-value capital investment programmes, and contribute to portfolio decisions for further growth and optimisation.
  • Digital & Data Strategy:

    • Champion the application of AI, data analytics, and digital technologies to enhance asset performance, forecasting, and maintenance direction.
  • Stakeholder & Governance:

    • Engage across external partnerships and senior governance structures, ensuring alignment with strategic business goals.

Your Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • 15+ years of senior leadership experience in asset management, operations, or a related commercial environment, delivering transformative results across complex infrastructure portfolios.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in budget management, negotiation, strategic decision-making, and shareholder value enhancement.
  • A deep understanding of renewable energy markets, along with proven expertise in operational strategies that balance safety, reliability, and profitability.
  • Experience leading teams through transformation and establishing high-trust, collaborative environments with a focus on sustainability.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, including experience influencing senior teams and decision-making bodies, as well as capitalising on emerging digital innovations.
