About the Role
Are you passionate about improving public health and reducing health inequalities? Do you have the leadership skills to drive strategic initiatives and collaborate with a wide range of partners?
If so, join Hammersmith & Fulham Council as the Director of Public Health—a role where your expertise will shape a healthier, safer, and more inclusive borough for everyone.
As Director of Public Health, you will be the system leader responsible for:
- Improving the health and wellbeing of residents
- Reducing health inequalities
- Protecting local communities from public health hazards
You will serve as the principal adviser on all health matters to elected members, officers, and partners, with a strategic role across health improvement, health protection, and healthcare public health.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to drive improvements in health and wellbeing while reducing health inequalities
- Collaborate with local communities, the NHS, and partners to develop and implement innovative public health solutions
- Produce an independent annual report on the health of the population, progress on reducing inequalities, and local public health outcomes
- Advise elected members, officers, and partners on public health matters
- Develop and deliver a Health and Wellbeing Strategy based on population needs
- Lead and manage a multi-disciplinary team to deliver effective public health services
- Ensure the development and delivery of plans to protect local communities from public health hazards

About You
Essential Qualification
- Hold (or be on track to obtain) a GMC, GDC, or UKPHR Public Health specialist registration within six months of interview
- Eligible candidates include:
- Those registered on (or near completion of) UK Public Health training programs
- Applicants going through portfolio registration routes (GMC/UKPHR), provided they are pre-registered at the time of interview
- Non-UK trained applicants who can demonstrate equivalence to UK CCT standards

- Strong understanding of the social determinants of health and strategies to address inequalities
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work strategically, influence policy, and drive public health outcomes
