Director of Safeguarding, TCES

Director of Safeguarding

At TCES, safeguarding is not a discrete function. It is expressed through inclusion practices, attendance systems, complaints handling, staff conduct, and family engagement. This role intentionally brings these elements together to ensure safeguarding is coherent, proactive, and system-wide.

About the Role

Safeguarding children and promoting their well-being is at the heart of our practice, embedded within the TCES Pillars of Excellence. It reflects an attitude of mind, belief system, and way of thinking that prioritises pupil well-being in every decision.

Our safeguarding policies and systems—such as safer recruitment, behaviour management, child protection, and whistleblowing procedures—arise from this core belief. While they are critical tools, they serve to sustain a culture of safeguarding across the organisation and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

A commitment to safeguarding extends not only to pupils but also to staff and adults who work within our system, fostering safe, inclusive, and positive educational outcomes for all young people.

As the company strategic lead on all aspects of safeguarding, the Director of Safeguarding oversees the effective implementation of organisational safeguarding arrangements, ensuring a holistic, compliant, and proactive safeguarding system that centres on pupil and staff well-being.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee holistic safeguarding by breaking down, quality-assuring, and aligning safeguarding measures across the organisation.
  • Work closely with schools and services, combining support, challenge, and oversight to strengthen safeguarding practice without displacing local leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to UK legislation and statutory guidance, including:
    • Keeping Children Safe in Education (2025)
    • Working Together to Safeguard Children (2026)
  • As Company Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), guide senior leaders in effective multi-agency working and ensure alignment with safeguarding policies across all schools and services.
  • Oversee the Assistant Heads of Inclusion (school-based DSLs) to maintain consistency in safeguarding compliance.
  • Collaborate with social workers to uphold social work practice and ethics, focusing on statutory safeguarding processes as outlined in Keeping Children Safe in Education (2025).
  • Support the continuing development of FAST (Families and Schools Working Together), actively engaging parents and carers in pupil welfare and education.
  • Proactively assess risks, implement safer recruitment practices, and enhance staff induction while delivering training and support to improve safeguarding practices.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
