A Day in the Life of a Director of Sales

What You’ll Be Doing

You’ll develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve and exceed revenue targets, focusing on:

  • Room bookings
  • Events
  • Corporate accounts

You’ll also:

  • Lead, mentor, and motivate the sales team to meet objectives, providing training as needed
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with:
    • Key corporate clients
    • Travel agents
    • Event organisers
  • Act as primary contact for high-profile accounts
  • Identify new business opportunities through networking, partnerships, and proactive outreach
  • Position the hotel as a preferred venue in the marketplace
  • Conduct regular sales meetings to track performance and address challenges
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to align sales strategies with campaigns and seasonal offers
  • Manage & negotiate contracts to ensure mutually beneficial terms
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to inform pricing and positioning strategies
  • Prepare detailed sales reports, analysing key metrics to guide senior decision-making
  • Represent the hotel at industry events, trade shows, and local business gatherings
  • Host evening socials (twice weekly)
  • Participate in hotel and team events

What We Need from You

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in sales, preferably within hospitality or events
  • Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing client relationships
  • Strong leadership & people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop teams
  • Exceptional communication & presentation skills—both verbal and written
  • In-depth knowledge of sales principles, including:
    • Strategic planning
    • Forecasting
    • Performance analysis
  • Proficiency in:
    • CRM software (e.g., Salesforce)
    • Microsoft Office Suite (for data generation & analysis)
  • Strong negotiation & contract management skills
  • Highly organised, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Flexibility to work outside regular hours (evenings, weekends) and attend off-site events
  • Proactive approach to identifying and pursuing new opportunities
