Director of Strategic Procurement
Location: Ealing / Hybrid (Some office attendance required - 1 day a week on avg.)
Salary: £Competitive
Contract type: Permanent – Full Time (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
DBS Level: Basic
About the Role
Lead strategic procurement that delivers commercial value, assurance, and measurable business outcomes.
Are you an experienced procurement leader with a proven track record of delivering commercial value, leading transformational change, and influencing at Executive level? Do you thrive in complex organisations where you can shape strategy, build high-performing teams, and drive procurement excellence? If so, this could be the opportunity for you.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, we’re looking for a Director of Strategic Procurement to lead our procurement function and provide senior strategic oversight across a significant organisational spend portfolio. You’ll be responsible for ensuring procurement activity delivers tangible outcomes, including value for money, regulatory compliance, supplier performance, commercial assurance, social value, and measurable efficiencies across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver the organisation’s procurement strategy, ensuring clear alignment with corporate objectives, financial plans, and business priorities.
- Report procurement performance, risks, opportunities, and outcomes to senior leadership, providing clear insight and tangible conclusions from procurement activity.
- Lead the transformation of the procurement function, embedding best practice, robust governance, and continuous improvement.
- Oversee the delivery of strategic sourcing and procurement activity across a diverse portfolio including property, repairs, IT, professional services, and corporate spend.
- Drive commercial value through category management, cost optimisation, supplier performance, and effective contract management.
- Lead high-value, complex procurement exercises and negotiate major contracts and frameworks.
- Establish and embed Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) frameworks, ensuring suppliers deliver against agreed performance measures.
- Ensure procurement activity complies with the Procurement Act 2023, internal governance requirements, and audit standards.
- Provide strategic commercial advice to Executive and senior leaders, influencing organisational decision-making.
- Lead, develop, and inspire a high-performing procurement team, driving a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

More about you
- Degree educated (or equivalent experience) with MCIPS/CIPS qualification.
- Significant senior procurement leadership experience, ideally at Head of or Director level.
- Proven experience delivering procurement transformation programmes within complex organisations.
- Strong knowledge of UK public procurement legislation, including the Procurement Act 2023.
- Demonstrable experience managing high-value, complex procurement and contract portfolios.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to deliver financial savings while maintaining quality and value.
- Experience developing procurement strategies, category management approaches, and supplier relationship frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to operate confidently at Executive and Board level.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of developing high-performing procurement teams.
- Experience within housing, local government, the NHS, or another regulated environment would be highly desirable.
