Senior Site Operations Manager - Newport, UK Site
About the Role
As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific team, you’ll engage in meaningful work that drives a positive global impact. Key Characteristics:
- Fully based at the Newport Site
- Owns and leads site operations to drive satisfaction, production excellence, and strategic goals
- Ensures high-quality, efficient production and timely delivery
- Leads continuous improvement in PPI (Practical Process Improvement) and promotes Lean Manufacturing & Supply Chain excellence
Responsibilities

Leading Site Operations:
- Establish goals and priorities aligned with business objectives and client expectations
- Ensure safety remains a top priority across the site

Manufacturing & Strategic Planning:
- Oversee all manufacturing activities to drive alignment with the strategic plan
- Partner with business leaders to develop the annual operating plan, and drive short-term and long-term Strategic Action Plans

Financial & Operational Performance:
- Hold accountability for the site’s financial performance, optimizing operational expenses while meeting financial targets
- Identify areas of improvement and implement proactively corrective measures

Team Development & Culture:
- Develop and lead high-performing teams for optimal functionality
- Foster ownership, accountability, and collaboration across the site
- Champion technological and cultural resiliency, practicing Thermo Fisher’s 4i Values

Process Innovation & Change Leadership:
- Provide direction for continuous improvement through PPI
- Drive higher standards in process efficiency, customer satisfaction, and profitability
- Champion a transformational culture and facilitate organizational change effectively
Qualifications
Education
- Required: Bachelor’s degree (preferably in Science or Operations-related field)
- Preferred: Master’s degree
Experience & Leadership
- 7-10 years of career progression in manufacturing, with senior operations leadership in a manufactics, particularly Plastics, highly desirable
- Strong ability to lead diverse teams, negotiate change, collaborate, and prioritize customer focus
- Proven experience as a change agent
- Hands-on experience in continual improvement with methodologies like Lean or Six Sigma
- Strong analytical skills, adept at interpreting data to solve problems and drive progress

Collaborative Skills
- Ability to influence and partner with senior teams in Finance, HR, R&D, Product Management, and Commercial Sales
Project Management
- Flexibility and capability to lead multiple complex projects simultaneously
Specialized & Technical Experience
- Experience leading GMP/Compliance audits within cGMP environment with successful results
- Preference for candidates with Plastic Injection expertise and Automation knowledge
- Demonstrated start-up operational experience in manufacturing
Soft Skills
- Exceptional people management and leadership abilities
- Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written)
- Absolute integrity and openness in decision-making
