Senior Associate Director (Overhead Lines) - Power & Energy | Jacobs | UK & Continental Europe

Forging a greener future, Jacobs is uniquely positioned to catalyse the global energy transition within Power & Energy. We’re now seeking a Senior Associate Director, Overhead Lines (OHL), to deliver high-profile projects across our transmission system assets portfolio, including:
- High-voltage (HV) Alternate Current Interrupter Substations (AIS) & Gas Insulated Substations (GIS)
- HV/EHV Overhead Line infrastructure (from 132kV to 400kV)
- High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) interconnectors
- Energy storage systems
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Delivery
- Develop and approve detailed engineering designs, specifications, and documentation using industry-leading tools:
- PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, MicroStation, PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole
- Ensure designs align with UK/Continental transmission and distribution standards (e.g., National Grid, DNO requirements)
- Lead and mentor teams of specialist engineers, ensuring consistent delivery of overhead transmission projects
Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement
- Manage complex overhead line projects across all stages, from concept to construction, including:
- Scoping, timelines, budget forecasting, and resource planning.
- Client-facing presentations and technical workshops.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks to ensure high-quality, on-time delivery.
- Champion safety and compliance at every level.
- Collaborate with construction teams on construction-based queries to align with design intent.

Innovation & Sustainability
- Optimise and modernise workflows, improving design efficiency across the team.
- Integrate sustainability goals into design standards, ensuring compliance with environmental and planning requirements.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all project documentation includes sufficient detail for construction approvals.
- Serve as a competent design authority (CDAE) under TP141 authorisation.
- Maintain rigorous technical review processes with expert sign-off at every stage.
About You
Core Requirements
- Minimum 8+ years of experience in OHL design for voltage ratings between 132kV–400kV within UK transmission/distribution environments (or structured equivalent).
- Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng, IET). Applicants in progress toward chartership may also be considered.
- Competent Design Authority (CDAE) accredited and authorised under TP141 for power apparatus design.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply industry standards, including those from National Grid, DNOs.

- Technical leadership – Experience leading complex HV/EHV designs, managing cross-functional teams.
- Client engagement – Bringing expertise to design reviews, workshops, and stakeholder alignment.
- Problem-solving – Proven ability to navigate competing priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.
- Sustainability & compliance – Integrating planning/environmental requirements into designs.
- Corporate authorisation – Experience acting as a designated authority on commercial projects.
