Director / Principal Application Engineer – FX Electronic Trading

Location: London

Working Model: Hybrid

Salary: £160 - £180k plus bonus and excellent Corporate benefits


A leading global investment bank is seeking a Director / Principal Application Engineer to play a pivotal role in the evolution of its market-leading electronic trading platform.

This is an opportunity to work at the heart of a high-performance FX technology ecosystem, shaping the architecture behind sophisticated Order Management and Smart Order Routing capabilities that support one of the world's leading electronic trading franchises. Working closely with Trading, Product and Engineering leadership, you'll influence strategic technology decisions, modernise critical components of the platform and help drive the adoption of AI across the electronic trading landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

  • As a senior technical leader, you will combine hands-on engineering with architectural ownership to deliver highly resilient, low-latency trading solutions.
  • Partnering with Product and Front Office stakeholders to design innovative technology solutions.
  • Leading the design and implementation of next-generation Order Management and Order Routing capabilities.
  • Driving architectural excellence across a complex electronic trading platform.
  • Developing highly performant, scalable and fault-tolerant distributed systems.
  • Championing engineering best practice through automation, testing and continuous improvement.
  • Defining technical roadmaps and influencing long-term platform strategy.

Experience:

You'll be an experienced software engineer with a passion for solving complex technical problems within electronic trading environments.

We're particularly interested in professionals with experience in:

  • Expert-level Core Java development.
  • Low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems.
  • Electronic Trading technology within FX, Rates, Equities or Listed Derivatives.
  • Order Management Systems (OMS) and/or Smart Order Routing (SOR).
  • Performance optimisation and multi-threaded application development.
  • Fault-tolerant transaction processing architectures.
  • Test-Driven Development and modern software engineering practices.
  • Working directly with Trading and Product teams to deliver business-critical technology.
