The Role: Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) – Private Equity Sponsor Manager
Department Overview
The Global Corporate & Investment Banking (GCIB) division is responsible for managing MUFG’s key international client relationships, including financing products such as:
- Debt Capital Markets (DCM)
- Loans & Bonds
- Structured & Project Finance
- Securitisation
- Working Capital Solutions
- FX & Interest Rate Derivatives
- Trade Finance
- Export Credit Agency (ECA) financing
Coverage teams specialise in credit and strategic perspectives, ensuring tailored solutions for global clients. The Private Equity Sponsor Coverage EMEA initiative aims to position MUFG as a leading financial partner for Private Equity Sponsors across EMEA, expanding client relations, products, and a globally coordinated coverage model.
Main Purpose of the Role
Building a Multiproduct Sponsor Platform
- Develop a comprehensive platform leveraging MUFG’s global expertise in sponsor relationships.
- Design bespoke financial solutions across:
- Leverage Finance
- Middle Market Direct Lending
- Asset-Reこれを fino Securitisation
- Equity Margin Lending
Expanding the Sponsor Client Base
- Enhance coverage for Private Equity sponsors, targeting high-growth sectors like:
- Energy Transition
- Digital Infrastructure
- Middle Market & Technology

Strategic Growth & Collaboration
- Lead origination for Sponsor Portfolio activities via coordination with:
- Coverage & Product Bankers
- Bimonthly calls with Americas and APAC teams for global alignment
- Strengthen collaboration with Corporate Coverage (France) to develop sponsor-owned corporate relationships.
Balance Sheet Optimization
- Manage sponsor transactions strategically, redeploying capital from low-growth relationships to optimise MUFG’s balance sheet.
Key Strategic Goals
- Establish MUFG as a "Preferred Capital Partner" and first-call bank in core sectors.
- Drive cross-product synergies to maximise value across the bank.
- Focus on secure financing opportunities for assets, portfolios, GPs, and LPs.
Key Responsibilities

Origination & Revenue Responsibility:
- Lead financial origination and relationship management for Private Equity firms, with accountability for hard revenue targets.

Client Relationships:
- Build and sustain strong, trust-based partnerships with Private Equity investor decision-makers and teams.
- Deeply understand client needs and objectives while delivering tailored strategies.

Product Marketing & Origination:
- Originate and promote high-impact financial products, including:
- Leverage Finance
- Leverage Capital Markets
- Middle Market Direct Lending
- Asset-Reçi ar Securitisation
- Equity Margin Lending
- Global Structured Solutions

Strategic Growth:
- Identify new revenue streams within the Private Equity sector to drive business expansion.

Collaboration:
- Work closely with internal teams to deliver customised solutions, ensuring coherence with Corporate Coverage.
- Align with Americas & APAC teams through coordinated discussions and partnerships.

Market & Competitive Intelligence:
- Monitor market trends, competitor movements, and regulatory changes.
- Provide strategic insights to inform financial and business decisions.

Required Work Experience
Applicants should have:
- Relevant work experience in Private Equity Sponsor Coverage or Leveraged Finance, preferably at an international institution.
- A proven track record in managing transactions from origination to execution.
- Strong connections with major market participants.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education: University degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
- Languages: Native fluency in English; additional European languages are a plus.
- Analytical & Numerical: Strong quantitative skills, critical thinking, and sound judgment.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in execution, including regulatory and financial accuracy.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to lead client conversations and negotiate complex deals.
