Role Summary

The Project Manager – Newbuild and Maintenance is responsible for the planning, coordination, and delivery of newbuild, refit, and maintenance projects across AmaWaterways’ global fleet.

Reporting to the VP Newbuild and Maintenance, this role ensures structured project execution, effective control of schedule, cost, and scope, and strong coordination across internal teams and external partners, including shipyards, designers, contractors, and suppliers.

The role also contributes to improving project delivery structures, processes, and ways of working to support efficient execution across multiple concurrent projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Coordination

  • Manage the planning and execution of newbuild, refit, and maintenance projects
  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, milestone plans, and action trackers
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities across design, technical management, operations, procurement, and shipyard teams
  • Monitor project progress and identify risks and opportunities related to scope, schedule, cost, and deliverables
  • Support the definition and implementation of risk mitigation measures
  • Drive resolution of project issues and ensure follow-through on corrective actions
  • Support project close-out activities, including lessons learned

Budget & Cost Control

  • Support the development and management of project budgets
  • Track committed and actual expenditures, highlighting variances and supporting forecasting
  • Maintain cost-control tools and contribute to regular financial reporting
  • Monitor procurement status, approvals, and key material deliveries impacting timelines

Stakeholder & Communication Management

  • Coordinate project meetings and workshops, ensuring clear agendas and outcomes
  • Track decisions, action items, and responsibilities, ensuring timely follow-up
  • Prepare structured project updates and reporting materials
  • Act as a key point of contact between internal teams and external partners
  • Support alignment across geographically dispersed teams and stakeholders

Project Controls & Documentation

  • Maintain structured project documentation including drawings, specifications, and change records
  • Ensure document control, revision tracking, and version consistency
  • Maintain risk registers, issue logs, and variation trackers
  • Support the use and improvement of project management tools and systems

Process & Ways of Working

  • Contribute to the improvement and standardization of project management processes and templates
  • Support consistency in reporting and project tracking approaches
  • Assist in implementing efficient workflows and coordination practices across projects

Organization & Team Support

  • Support the definition of clear roles, responsibilities, and interfaces across project teams
  • Contribute to improving coordination between internal functions and external partners
  • Develop practical ways of working that enhance team efficiency and clarity

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site support at shipyards and project locations as required
  • Support broader newbuild and maintenance initiatives as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications & Experience

Experience

  • 6–10 years of relevant experience in project management within marine, construction, or engineering environments
  • Experience delivering newbuild, refit, or maintenance projects
  • Background in cruise, shipbuilding, or interior fit-out preferred

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
  • Experience with project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheet, Asana, or similar)
  • Familiarity with document management platforms (SharePoint, Teams, or equivalent)
  • Ability to manage structured project documentation and tracking systems

Core Competencies

  • Strong coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Solid understanding of project controls, budgeting, and scheduling
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to present information clearly in structured reports
  • Comfortable working across international teams and time zones
  • Professional and reliable in stakeholder interactions

Additional Requirements

  • Fluent in English; additional languages (Dutch, German, or French) are an advantage
  • Full-time, remote role (ideally based in the Netherlands, Germany, UK, or Switzerland)
  • Willingness to travel for on-site support
