Account Director, Global Travel Retail & Shopper Marketing

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Account Director to lead our growing Global Travel Retail (GTR) & Shopper Marketing team. Join one of THE·TEAM’s fastest-growing offerings, delivering integrated campaigns, global activations, and retail experiences for the world’s leading consumer brands.

Key to your role:

  • Strategic leadership across Europe, IMEA, APAC, and the Americas, shaping Global Travel Retail (GTR) programs in airports, duty-free, and retail environments.
  • Collaborating with brands and shoppers, building trusted relationships and championing THE·TEAM as a global leader in GTR & Shopper Marketing.
  • Mentoring teams, driving commercial growth, and ensuring campaign success.

Responsibilities

Client & Account Oversight

  • Act as senior client lead, overseeing Global Travel Retail & Shopper Marketing portfolios.
  • Develop strategic counsel on client objectives, shopper behaviour, and market trends.
  • Partner with senior stakeholders, overseeing annual planning, business reviews, and long-term growth.
  • Manage relationships with retailers, airports, production partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Align campaigns with brand strategy, set KPIs, and evaluate campaign performance.

Campaign & Activation Leadership

  • Lead integrated shopper marketing campaigns across airports, duty-free, and retail.
  • Oversee design, production, and delivery of 2D/3D creatives, digital screens, retail theatres, and in-store assets.
  • Manage international activations in Europe, IMEA, APAC, and the Americas, ensuring global consistency with local relevance.
  • Drive premium airport activations and scalable shopper engagement via promotions and omnichannel tactics.
  • Contribute to global playbooks and activation toolkits and provide senior oversight for flagship events, including TFWA Cannes.

Account & Team Leadership

  • Ensure high standards in creative, operational, and commercial delivery—exceeding timelines and budgets.
  • Onboard new clients, programmes, and campaign transitions, managing assets.
  • Mentor Account Managers and Senior Managers, fostering collaboration and high performance.
  • Coordinate across strategy, creative, production, and project management for integrated solutions.

Commercial & Financial Strategy

  • Drive profitability and growth across client portfolios.
  • Lead scope development, forecasting, fee negotiations, and budget management.
  • Identify new business opportunities and expand THE·TEAM’s GTR & Shopper Marketing offerings.
  • Partner with procurement, finance, and legal to ensure commercial compliance.

Innovation & Insight

  • Stay ahead of GTR and shopper marketing trends, bringing fresh ideas to client campaigns.
  • Optimise activations using shopper insights and performance metrics for measurable impact.

Requirements

  • Proven global experience in brand activations, campaign toolkits, and shopper channels (on-premise, travel retail, grocery, or customer engagement—agency or client-side).
  • Knowledge of Global Travel Retail, duty-free, airport retail, and omnichannel marketing.
  • Leadership experience in:
    • Managing international programmes across brands and sectors.
    • Driving stakeholder relationships with global sport/entertainment rights holders.
    • Developing global-scale campaigns and strategic account growth.
  • Commercial expertise: Managing large budgets, forecasting, and profitability.
  • Project management: Handling multidisciplinary teams and complex timelines.
  • International fluency: Experience working in Europe, IMEA, APAC, and/or Americas.
  • Willingness to travel to support client meetings, market visits, and major events.
