About the Site Operations Department

The Site Operations Department oversees the health of all mechanical and electrical systems, building maintenance, and performance of data modules across Vantage’s data centers. The team operates 24x7 globally, with Critical Facilities Engineers (CFEs) on-site to ensure uninterrupted operation of critical infrastructure.

As the face of Vantage to customers, the team is accountable for business continuity, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction, adhering to the highest standards of safety, reliability, and service.


Position Overview

The Director, Site Operations is responsible for the leadership, operational performance, and strategic direction of one or more data center campuses. This onsite leadership role (based in London) involves:

  • Leading a team of Critical Facilities Engineers (CFEs) and manager-level leaders in a 24x7 mission-critical environment.
  • Partnering closely with Reliability Engineering, Design & Construction, Security, ICT, Customer Success, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient campus operations while delivering exceptional customer experiences.
  • Advancing operational excellence, including infrastructure reliability, customer satisfaction, people leadership, business continuity, compliance, capacity planning, vendor management, and budget ownership.
  • Supporting campus growth, driving continuous improvement, and preparing facilities for future expansion.

Essential Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead operations and engineering efforts to ensure the safe, efficient operation of all critical building systems and infrastructure.
  • Provide strategic direction to teams operating in a 24x7 environment.
  • Foster a high-performance, customer-focused culture of teamwork, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Ensure high availability, reliability, and capacity targets are met.
  • Act as the senior operational leader during incidents and emergencies and as the key escalation point.

Customer & Performance Excellence

  • Deliver a world-class customer experience with rapid resolution of issues.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction and business continuity.

Technical & Compliance Oversight

  • Manage preventive maintenance programs and work orders.
  • Schedule and oversee vendor/contractor activities for maintenance.
  • Maintain strict personnel safety while protecting critical infrastructure.
  • Develop and enforce Operations Manuals (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Emergency Operation Plans (EOPs).
  • Ensure all maintenance adheres to approved procedures and mission-critical work rules.
  • Conduct regular policy reviews to align with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Budget & Vendor Management

  • Prepare and manage op****thepental and capital budgets.
  • Develop and administer vendor contracts, scope reviews, and service-level agreements (SLAs).
  • Monitor campus energy use, Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE), and sustainability initiatives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering and security to support customer installations and future expansion plans.
  • Engage in operational readiness assessments and infrastructure projects.
  • Drive reliability, efficiency, and sustainability improvements.

Performance Tracking & Reporting

  • Track, analyse, and report key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Document operational metrics and compliance records.
  • Conduct team performance evaluations, coaching, and succession planning.

Ongoing Responsibilities

  • Lead recruitment, training, and talent development.
  • Support sustainability certifications (e.g., ISO).
  • Assist with customer visits, audits, and technical evaluations.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in:
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • A related technical discipline (Computer Science, Physics)
    • Business administration (or equivalent relevant experience).

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in:

    • Facility Engineering, Plant Engineering, or Mission Critical Operations.
    • Leadership in 24x7 mission-critical environments (strongly preferred).
  • Previous experience in data center, critical infrastructure, or similarly complex environments (recommended).

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Deep understanding of electrical and mechanical systems in mission-critical environments.
  • Ability to manage teams through organizational, technological, or process changes.
  • Expertise in safety/compliance, business continuity, and operational risk management.
  • Proficiency in vendor management, contracts, and SLA performance tracking.
  • Knowledge of physical security principles for critical environments (preferred).
  • Exceptional customer service record (internal & external).
  • Strong communication, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency + experience with building automation systems.
