Senior Technology Leader – Pre-Trade Compliance, Fortness Application
About the Opportunity

At RBC Capital Markets, we seek a seasoned leader to head our Pre-Trade Compliance Technology team, responsible for "Fortress"—an application performing pre-trade checks across asset classes (Derivatives, Credit, Rates, FX, Equities, Commodities).
Key Responsibilities
This hybrid leadership role demands a mix of:
- Stakeholder management (30%) – Partnering with senior business leaders, functions, and technology teams across Canada, the US, and India
- Project governance (25%) – Driving end-to-end project delivery, financial oversight, and risk/issue management through steering committees
- Team leadership (30%) – Managing a cross-functional team of 15+ while fostering a positive employee experience aligned with RBC’s [Collective Ambition](https://www.rbc.com/en/experience занковемографит/collective-ambition) and Leadership Model
- Technical oversight (15%) – Defining, evolving, and translating the strategy and architecture for the Capital Markets Pre-Trade Compliance product offering
Core Duties
- Lead project governance: Develop and implement governance frameworks, steer committees, manage budgets, and resolve escalated risks/conflicts
- Team development: Hire, retain, and develop high-performing teams while enhancing capability and engagement
- Vendor & third-party oversight: Manage contracts and integrations with external partners
- Quality & compliance: Continuously improve QA processes to ensure robust, scalable delivery
- Business-Tech alignment: Bridge gaps between technical constraints and regulatory/functional requirements
- Innovation focus: Identify and drive technological advancements to strengthen RBC’s competitive edge

Must-Have Requirements
✅ Education & Background
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
✅ Technical & Project Leadership (6+ years)
- Proven track record in program and portfolio management (multi-workstream delivery in fast-paced environments)
- Java environments or full-stack development exposure strongly preferred
- Strong grasp of software development lifecycle (SDLC), microservices, or fintech infrastructure
✅ Domain Expertise (Capital Markets fundamentals)
- Deep knowledge of core workflows (orders, RFQs, execution, settlement, tax, KYC) and asset classes: Derivatives, Credit, Rates, FX, Equities, Commodities
- Understanding of regulatory compliance (e.g., pre-trade checks, positioning limits, clearing obligations)
✅ Stakeholder & Change Leadership (5+ years)
- Team leadership: Managed and developed technical/product teams of comparable size (at least 10 members), demonstrating talent retention and cultural alignment
- communication: Ability to translate business needs into technical designs and escalate clearly with ambiguity
✅ Mindset & Collaboration
- Results-driven, problem-solving, and collaborative—partners are integral to equal workstream success
- High focus on quality, accountability, and employee engagement
Nice-to-Haves (Not Required but Impactful)
🔹 Capital Markets practice specifically in securities derivatives, solvency controls, or trading regulations 🔹 Hands-on expertise in pre-trade compliance controls such as:
- Margin aliquot optimization
- CBC (Credit BHCA Risk)
- Term trading restrictions
- KYC/AML processes 🔹Technologies of note:
- Financial messaging protocols (FIX, ISO 20022)
- Streaming data architectures (Kafka, PostgreSQL clusters)
- Automation frameworks for trade reconciliations/infections
