Director (Structural Engineer) – Dorking
Salary: £70k–£85k
About the Role
Are you an ambitious structural engineer seeking the next step in your career? This opportunity presents a unique chance to progress into a senior, varied role with an award-winning Civil & Structural Design consultancy based in Dorking.
Ideal for an experienced structural engineer (preferably Chartered), this role requires technical excellence and commercial acumen to lead client-facing and technical delivery.
The opportunity includes the possibility to take shares in the business and become a co-owner, though a fully salaried option is available.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and co-manage an already-established design project team (15+ staff)
- Take a leading technical and commercial role in delivering high-quality projects
- Manage client and stakeholder relations, including fee bids, proposals, and project consultations
- Provide end-to-end structural engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio, including:
- Mainstream buildings (residential, commercial, retail, healthcare)
- Bespoke residential projects (private clients)
- School, arts, leisure, and mixed-use developments
- Basements, conversions, and insurance/claim work
- Projects valued between £2M–£10M
- Ensure all designs are buildable, practical, and cost-effective
- Support teamwork-driven projects with minimal internal turnover while guiding career progression

Requirements
- Strong mainstream structural design experience in steel/concrete, timber, masonry, and hybrid structures
- Experienced managing clients, team members, and project budgets
- Savvy business sense to deliver feasibility studies, bids, and profit assessments
- Fully Chartered (MICE/MIStructE preferred) or on a clear pathway to
- Ability to stemline designs for practical construction and client satisfaction
- Located or willing to relocate to Dorking
