Director – Accelerated M&A & Distressed Turnaround (Hong Kong Based, Working with UK Team)
The Opportunity
Are you an established Transaction Services Director in Hong Kong seeking a highly autonomous role, a transparent career trajectory, and the flexibility of modern, remote-first working?
For a senior professional with 5 to 7+ years of experience navigating the Hong Kong Big 4 environment, career progression can often feel restricted by rigid corporate structures, localized market constraints, and shifting partnership criteria.
Tunneys Hong Kong offers a compelling alternative. We are an elite, agile advisory firm specializing in Distressed Turnaround and Accelerated M&A (AMA). We are seeking a technically exceptional, highly analytical Director to join our Hong Kong entity. In this unique role, you will be based in Hong Kong but will work directly with our UK-based team to deliver high-stakes, mid-market UK transactions and restructuring projects.
This position offers the intellectual challenge of international cross-border deals, a clear and merit-based path to partnership, and the freedom to work remotely within Hong Kong.
About the Role
In accelerated M&A and distressed restructuring, financial accuracy is absolute. As a Director, you will not merely act as a high-level reviewer; you will be the ultimate guardian of financial integrity for our UK-facing engagements.
You will lead the delivery of complex financial analyses, taking hands-on responsibility for the construction, validation, and defense of integrated financial models. This role requires an exceptional accountant who can dissect complex financial statements, implement flawless quality control processes, and confidently prepare businesses for buy-side due diligence.
Key Responsibilities
- Cross-Border Project Delivery: Collaborate seamlessly with the Tunneys UK team to deliver high-profile distressed and turnaround engagements, managing the workflow across time zones with high autonomy.
- Financial Model Integrity & Delivery: Lead the design, construction, and delivery of complex, integrated three-statement financial models and 13-week cash flow forecasts under compressed timelines.
- Rigorous Quality Control: Establish and implement robust checking mechanisms to identify and rectify model errors before delivery. You will ensure that every output is logically sound, mathematically correct, and fully defensible to UK lenders, sponsors, and buyers.
- Bidder Q&A and Due Diligence Prep: Prepare target businesses for rigorous buy-side financial due diligence (FDD). You will manage the bidder Q&A process, translating complex model mechanics into clear, strategic narratives.
- Stakeholder Management: Confidently manage relationships with sophisticated UK-based stakeholders—including corporate boards, lenders, and private equity sponsors—under highly pressured turnaround conditions.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and develop junior professionals, fostering a high-performance culture of extreme ownership and technical excellence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
