At Buro Happold, we are playing a leading role in helping governments and infrastructure providers navigate the transition to low-carbon, resilient energy systems. We are now seeking an experienced Director – Transport Energy Transition to drive the next phase of our growth across the UK transport sector.
The role can be based from either our London or Cambridge office with hybrid working.
This is a highly visible, senior role at the intersection of energy, infrastructure, and strategic advisory, offering the opportunity to influence major national programmes and build a market-leading capability.
The Opportunity
This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for expanding our advisory services across transport infrastructure, working with key public sector clients including National Highways, DfT, DESNZ, TfL, and local authorities.
You will combine commercial acumen, technical expertise and strategic leadership to:
- Establish Buro Happold as a trusted advisor in transport energy transition
- Develop new service lines and market opportunities
- Lead complex, high-impact programmes across the UK
You’ll play a central role in delivering our strategic growth ambitions, helping shape new markets while building and mentoring a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Market Leadership
- Lead expansion into transport energy and infrastructure advisory markets
- Build and strengthen relationships across government and public sector clients
- Identify and secure major opportunities across national frameworks and programmes
Service Development & Delivery
- Drive and grow advisory services including:
- EV charging infrastructure strategy and planning
- Energy resilience and storage solutions (including BESS)
- Transport decarbonisation roadmaps
- Grid connection and capacity strategy
- Procurement and commercial advisory

Framework & Programme Leadership
- Lead delivery through key frameworks (e.g. National Highways programmes)
- Build long-term client partnerships and repeat advisory engagements
- Position Buro Happold as a reliable and innovative delivery partner
Leadership & Capability Building
- Develop and mentor multidisciplinary teams
- Foster collaboration across energy and transport disciplines
- Build internal capability and thought leadership
External Representation
- Act as a senior representative of Buro Happold in the market
- Contribute to industry engagement, thought leadership and strategic positioning
About You
We are looking for a commercially driven leader with a strong track record in infrastructure and energy transition.
You will bring:
- Significant experience in transport infrastructure, energy systems, or both
- A strong network across public sector clients and frameworks
- Proven ability to win and deliver complex advisory projects
- Strategic thinking combined with hands-on delivery capability
- A passion for driving sustainable, low-carbon infrastructure solutions
