Head of Data Strategy – Relation Therapeutics
Location: London

The Opportunity
As the Head of Data Strategy, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company’s data strategy, ensuring that Relation Therapeutics leverages the full value of its data assets.
This is a unique opportunity to:
- Lead the charge in building and governing data foundations
- Fuel the next generation of drug discovery.
You will:
- Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive data strategy that positions data as a critical and compounding asset for research and business initiatives.
- Work closely with the VPs of Engineering and Data Science and the CTO.
- Lead the acquisition, integration, and governance of high-quality datasets from diverse sources, including open-access platforms, biobanks, proprietary studies, and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities
Data Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute Relation’s data strategy in partnership with stakeholders, ensuring data supports drug discovery, research, and development.
- Collaborate with data science and ML teams to ensure seamless data integration for model development and scientific discovery.
Data Acquisition & Integration
- Procure and integrate external datasets (e.g. UK Biobank, public databases).
- Manage partnerships to enrich Relation’s data ecosystem.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Implement policies ensuring data quality, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Lead data curation efforts to maintain integrity across omics, imaging, and clinical data.
Data Infrastructure & Collaboration
- Guide development of scalable, efficient data systems with the VP of Engineering.
- Partner with bioinformaticians, machine learning engineers, and wet-lab teams to ensure data is accessible and optimised.
Team Leadership & External Engagement
- Build and manage a high-performing data, governance, and acquisition team.
- Strengthen external relationships with academic partners and industry collaborators.
Requirements & Qualifications
Professional Experience & Expertise
- Graduate degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computational Biology, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- 7+ years of experience leading data strategy, management, and acquisition in biotech/life sciences, including:
- Experience with large biobanks (e.g. UK Biobank) and public databases.
- Hands-on expertise with data management tools and cloud platforms.
- Ability to write functioning code (pipelines) and understand computer science concepts (e.g., latency, bottlenecks).
- Data governance and compliance with FAIR data principles.
- Proven track record in data curation, quality assurance in regulated settings.
- Deep understanding of omics, imaging, and clinical data ontologies.
