About The Role
Reporting to: Head of Pharmacy
Job type: Permanent
Salary: Competitive
Working Pattern & Hours: Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week, with working hours from 9am-5pm
Location: On site at BT65
We are seeking a Trainee Dispenser to work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, supporting the safe and accurate preparation and supply of medicines to patients. This is a training role involving assisting with dispensing prescriptions, labelling, stock control, and maintaining accurate records, while learning to follow legal, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
As a Trainee Dispenser, you will be responsible for the following key areas:
- To select and label pharmaceutical products in accordance with a prescription by following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and complying with all legal requirements
- To ensure the safe and correct transfer of dispensed items to patients
- To identify medicine related problems or queries and bring these to the attention of the pharmacist
- To answer queries on the supply and availability of medicines, where it is within their competence
- To accurately maintain Patient Medication Reports (PMR) to ensure patient safety and in accordance with data protection requirements
- To receive stock in accordance with SOP's
- To ensure the safe and appropriate storage of medicines
- To assist with stock control and the maintenance of reasonable stock levels within the dispensary
- To respond to telephone, email and text queries of a routine pharmaceutical nature from patients or their representatives and to refer queries to the pharmacist when appropriate
- To liaise with other healthcare professionals to assist in the continuity of patient care across primary and secondary care
- To assist in providing pharmaceutical care to patients by carrying out reasonable duties as determined by the pharmacist.

About You
You'll thrive in this role if you're a Trainee Dispenser who takes pride in being accurate, organised, and patient-focused. You enjoy working as part of a team and understand the importance of getting things right first time when it comes to medicines and patient care.
You'll have some experience in a pharmacy or dispensary environment, with a good understanding of dispensing processes, SOPs and the importance of compliance. You're confident using PMR systems, handling stock, and supporting the smooth day-to-day running of a busy dispensary.
Above all, you'll care about delivering a safe, high-quality service and making a positive difference to patients every day.
Qualifications & Experience
To be successful for the Trainee Dispenser role, you will need to possess the following skills and experience:
- Relevant dispensing qualification desirable or willingness to undertake training
- Good attention to detail and high levels of concentration
- Previous experience in a pharmacy or dispensary environment
- Confidence using Patient Medication Record (PMR) systems
- Familiarity with stock control, ordering, and safe storage of medicines
- Experience handling patient queries (phone, email, or in person) in a professional manner
- Experience working within data protection and confidentiality guidelines
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Excellent team working skills
- Strong understanding of SOPs and legal requirements within a pharmacy setting
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise tasks in a busy dispensary
- Understanding of patient safety principles and risk identification
- Good level of I.T. Literacy.
