About the Role
We seek a highly skilled and motivated Distributed-Database Platform Engineer to join our enterprise computing data infrastructure team. This critical role will manage global deployments of Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and Greenplum for over 10,000+ end-users, scaling distributed database platforms and driving modernization, automation, and performance optimisation across our hybrid cloud ecosystem.
Part of the Lead Software Production Management & Reliability Engineering job family at Director level, this position ensures the stability, reliability, and optimal performance of critical infrastructure systems that support business operations.
Core Responsibilities
Design & Architecture
- Lead the architecture and deployment of distributed database systems (Snowflake, PostgreSQL) across hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
- Develop and optimise database clusters in multi-cloud environments.
- Implement and manage geo-redundant database deployments using solutions like Patroni/Golden Gate.
- Design AI/ML-enabled database solutions with Snowflake (e.g. Cortex Analyst, AI-SQL, Snowpark Container Services, Snowflake ML).
- Conduct workshops and design thinking sessions with stakeholders to onboard AI/ML solutions.
Platform Engineering & Operations
- Plan, deploy, and maintain large-scale distributed database systems.
- Ensure high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and performance tuning across multi-region deployments.
- Implement cost-optimisation strategies (e.g. virtual warehouse sizing in Snowflake).

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
