Document Controller
Location: Warrington (Hybrid – 3 days office/2 days home) Contract: 12 Months IR35 Status: Outside IR35 Start: ASAP (interviews from 13th July) Rate: Competitive day rate
We're recruiting for an experienced Document Controller to join a leading engineering and infrastructure organisation, delivering major industrial projects across the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a growing project delivery team and play a key role in establishing a dedicated Document Control function, supporting both new project mobilisation and legacy project management while ensuring all documentation remains accurate, compliant, and effectively controlled throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
As Document Controller, you will be responsible for:
- Managing project documentation within Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS).
- Setting up and implementing document control processes for new projects.
- Creating and maintaining project data books.
- Establishing work packages and document structures.
- Overseeing document numbering, version control, and revision history.
- Maintaining document registers, indexing systems, and efficient filing.
- Organising and managing legacy project documentation.
- Issuing, distributing, and archiving project documentation.
- Collaborating closely with Quality, HSQE, and project delivery teams to ensure documentation adheres to compliance standards.

About You
Required:
- Proven experience as a Document Controller within engineering, construction, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong working knowledge of Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS).
- Solid understanding of document control processes, version control, and document lifecycle management.
- Exceptional organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritise tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable:
- Experience with Procore and/or Aconex.
- Knowledge and expertise in mechanical engineering, industrial plant, process/pipeline, or major infrastructure projects.
- hands-on experience with creating and maintaining project data books.
