Job Description
Purpose of Role
Drive AWS infrastructure and application migration waves, ensuring robust technical solutions aligned with programme objectives. This role emphasises discovery work, requiring candidates with strong expertise in this critical area.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end design of AWS migration solutions for infrastructure and applications.
- Conduct discovery exercises using tools like AWS Application Discovery Service or AWS Migration Hub to assess:
- Current environments
- Dependencies
- Migration risks
- Translate discoveries into AWS migration designs and wave plans, selecting strategies such as:
- Rehost
- Replatform
- Refactor
- Design target state architectures on AWS, covering:
- Compute
- Storage
- Networking
- Security
- Collaborate with delivery and project managers to align with programme timelines.
- Support execution of migration waves using tools like:
- AWS MGN (Migration Gateway)
- AWS DMS (Database Migration Service)
- Application Migration Service
- Resolve technical issues as they arise.
- Produce architecture documentation and design artefacts for governance and sign-off.
- Liaise with security, change, and transition teams to ensure designs meet:
- Organisational policies
- AWS Well Architected Framework standards.

Qualifications
Required Experience
- Proven track record in leading AWS migration projects from design to execution.
- Strong AWS infrastructure expertise, including:
- VPC design
- EC2
- Networking
- Storage services
- Deep application understanding, including:
- Application dependencies
- Integration within AWS environments
- Hands-on migration discovery experience (essential, not optional).
- Experience managing multiple migration waves within large-scale programmes.
- Working knowledge of AWS migration tooling:
- Migration Gateway (MGN)
- Database Migration Service (DMS)
- Application Discovery Service
- Migration Hub
Desirable Experience
- AWS certification: Solutions Architect Associate or Professional preferred.
- Experience in large-scale transformation or migration programmes.
- Familiarity with:
- AWS Well Architected Framework
- Governance frameworks (RFCs, RAID logs)
Skills & Attributes
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate technical details clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable managing pressure across multiple concurrent projects.
- Excellent documentation skills.
