Senior AWS Migration Architect

Purpose of Role

Drive AWS infrastructure and application migration waves, from initial design through execution, ensuring solutions are robust and aligned with programme objectives. Discovery work is key—candidates must prove expert experience.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end AWS migration solutions design, covering infrastructure & application layers.
  • Conduct discovery exercises using tools like AWS Application Discovery Service or AWS Migration Hub to evaluate environments, dependencies, and risks.
  • Translate findings into AWS migration designs & wave plans, selecting optimal strategies (rehost, replatform, refactor).
  • Design target architecture across compute, storage, networking, and security.
  • Collaborate with delivery & project managers to align technical approaches with timelines.
  • Support execution of migration waves using tools such as AWS MGN, DMS, or Application Migration Service, troubleshooting technical challenges.
  • Produce architecture documentation and design artefacts for governance & approval.
  • Liaise with security, change & transition teams to ensure AWS Well Architected compliance.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Proven track record in driving AWS migration waves (design → execution).
  • Deep AWS infrastructure expertise, including VPC design, EC2, networking, and storage.
  • Strong application knowledge, covering interdependencies and integration points in AWS environments.
  • Hands-on discovery experience—mandatory for this role.
  • Experience managing multiple concurrent migration waves.
  • Working knowledge of AWS migration tools (MGN, DMS, Application Discovery Service, Migration Hub).

Desirable Experience

  • AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Associate or Professional preferred).
  • Background in large-scale transformations or migration programs.
  • Familiarity with AWS Well-Architected Framework.
  • Understanding of governance frameworks (RFCs, RAID logs).
