Domestic Assistant – Medirest (Part-Time)
**£12.92 per hour | Up to 9 hours per week | NHS hospital environment
About the Role
Are you looking for a fulfilling opportunity that makes a real difference in healthcare? As a Domestic Assistant at Medirest, you’ll support a team providing outstanding cleaning services across wards, laundry, kitchens and communal areas for patients, visitors and staff.
This isn’t just cleaning—it’s a critical role in infection control, ensuring a safe environment where medical teams can deliver life-changing services. Without Domestic Assistants, the hospital couldn’t function.
Medirest is part of Compass Group UK & Ireland and operates across over 130 NHS Trusts and private hospitals.
Key Responsibilities
- High-value cleaning tasks, including:
- High and low dusting, mopping, wiping and scrubbing all surfaces
- Deep cleaning of wards, side rooms, toilets, showers, infected areas and public spaces
- Waste management – maintaining and emptying bins as required
- Maintaining hospital standards – ensuring all areas are clean, presentable and safe for patients and visitors while following strict infection control policies
- Following Health & Safety guidelines in all tasks, including the safe use of equipment
- Working flexibly to meet the demands of patient care, often under pressure
- Providing a ** calm, reassuring presence**—patients, visitors and staff will rely on your support
- Occasional contact with unwell or distressed patients, with appropriate compassion and discretion

About You
We recognise that experience in this field isn’t always necessary—what matters is enthusiasm, reliability and a commitment to excellence.
- No prior domestic assistant experience required, but a proud approach to your work and a willingness to go the extra mile for patients
- Communicative and empathetic—capable of building rapport with patients and staff in a hospital setting
- Demonstrate teamwork and adaptability, working occasionally alone but always contributing to a high-standard service
- Hardworking and trustworthy—you will often be unsupervised, adhering to protocols independently
- Legendary reliability given this is an on-call (checking availability methodology: weeks per year)
- Must meet Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) requirements

Shift Pattern
Presently
- Mondays to Thursdays: Shift details undetermined (open roster)
- Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays: Afternoons
We recognise flexible schedules are key in healthcare—availability for weekends/evenings*, will be centred around operational needs.*
