Job Title: Domestic Assistant

Location: Westbourne School, Sutton in Ashfield, NG17 2EL

Hours: 15 per week | Monday to Friday | 3.30pm - 6.30pm

Salary: £9,261.75 per annum (not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: August 2026

About the Role

Make a real difference every day by helping to keep Westbourne School a clean, safe and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors. We’re looking for a reliable and motivated Cleaning Operative to join our friendly on-site team and deliver a high-quality daily cleaning service across the school.

What you'll be doing

You’ll play a key part in maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness throughout the building. Your work will help create a positive environment where everyone can thrive.

Daily responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out general cleaning tasks such as emptying bins, vacuuming carpets, damp dusting, floor care and washroom cleaning
  • Using electrical cleaning equipment, including suction machines and floor maintenance machinery
  • Responding to emergency cleaning needs, including floods or bodily fluids
  • Communicating effectively with the site representative and your cleaning colleagues
  • Completing any additional duties appropriate to the role
  • Following all health and safety procedures, including COSHH, risk assessments, colour-coding and manufacturer instructions
  • Delivering cleaning services in line with the site’s contract specification and service level agreement
  • Ensuring all on-site documentation (e.g., health and safety folder) is followed
  • Managing your time effectively and working to agreed standards
  • Providing excellent customer care and maintaining a professional, positive attitude

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience liaising with premises supervisors and frontline staff
  • Ideally has some understanding of the cleaning industry (desirable, not essential)
  • Demonstrates excellent customer care in their daily work
  • Works efficiently, takes pride in their work and looks for ways to improve services
  • Works well with colleagues but is also confident working independently

Westbourne School caters for pupils aged 11-18 and we are growing to 85 pupils across two sites. You will be responsible for planning and delivering various subjects across the curriculum.
