Domestic Assistant
Domestic Assistant – Medirest (NHS Cleaning Role)
£14.8 per hour (35 hours per week) Variable shifts available
About the Role
Are you passionate about patient care and looking for a meaningful opportunity to contribute to healthcare services? We are hiring Domestic Assistants to support Medirest, a division of Compass Group UK & Ireland, in maintaining hospitals and healthcare settings at the highest standards.
As a Domestic Assistant, your role is essential to infection control, ensuring patients, visitors, and staff experience safe and drop-clean environments. This isn’t just cleaning—this is a role with impact, helping the hospital deliver life-changing medical services to those who need it most.
We’re looking for committed individuals who take pride in their work, show integrity, and are eager to contribute to a purpose-driven team. Whether you have prior cleaning experience or not, what matters is your attitude, willingness to learn, and dedication to going the extra mile for patients.
Key Responsibilities
- General cleaning tasks:
- High and low dusting, mopping, wiping, and scrubbing of surfaces across wards, side rooms, and infected areas.
- Deep cleaning of toilets, showers, and public spaces.
- Waste management:
- Ensuring rubbish bins are maintained, emptied promptly, and kept hygienic.
- Hospital standards:
- Keeping all areas clean, safe, and presentable in line with Medirest’s policies and procedures.
- Equipment and safety compliance:
- Using cleaning tools and equipment in adherence to Health & Safety guidelines.
- Patient and staff interaction:
- Communicating professionally and courteously with patients (who may be unwell or distressed), visitors, and healthcare staff.
- Adaptability:
- Working independently and as part of a team, adapting to pressure and fluctuating priorities.
- Maintaining a flexible approach to meet the hospital’s needs.

- Medical checks required (Disclosure & Barring Service check); all costs covered by Medirest.
