Domestic Assistant

Part-Time Domestic Assistant – Clayfields House Secure Unit, Nottinghamshire

Basic Information

  • Salary: £24,796 per annum (pro rata for part-time)

About the Role

The Children and Families Department within Nottinghamshire County Council follows an approach called ‘Our Nottinghamshire Approach’, focusing on a strengths-based methodology to support children, young people, and families. This opportunity is at Clayfields House, which provides a secure and supportive environment for young people aged 10 to 18 requiring care and guidance.

This is a part-time (17 hours per week) Domestic Assistant position, focusing on maintaining high cleanliness, hygiene, and safety standards across the secure unit. You’ll contribute to a team dedicated to ensuring the environment remains safe, welcoming, and conducive to the well-being of the young people in care.


Key Responsibilities

As a Domestic Assistant, your role will include:

  • Maintaining cleanliness and hygiene – Cleaning and refreshing all living spaces to a high standard.
  • Emergency and deep cleaning – Responding to spillages and conducting thorough cleaning when required.
  • Supply management – Monitoring, ordering, and replacing consumable cleaning items, as well as maintaining equipment and supplies.
  • Equipment operation – Using industrial equipment (vacuums, floor scrubbers, etc.) effectively and safely.
  • Stock and record-keeping – Assisting in stock control, reporting defectiveitems, and completing paperwork.
  • Health & Safety compliance – Adhering to protocols, including COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) standards and risk assessments.
  • Team support – Working flexibly within the facilities team to ensure seamless running of domestic operations.

What We’re Looking For

We welcome candidates with experience in cleaning, domestic work, or related fields, though it is not essential.

Ideal applicants will demonstrate:

  • Practical experience in cleaning, maintaining hygiene standards, or similar services.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to high cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team.
  • Strong communication skills, with a welcoming and proactive attitude when interacting with colleagues and young people.
  • Basic IT skills (e.g., spreadsheets for reporting).
  • Willingness to undertake training to keep skills and knowledge updated.
