Role Description
The Domestic Assistant is a part-time, on-site role based in Edinburgh. In this role, the Domestic Assistant will carry out a range of cleaning and housekeeping duties to maintain safe, welcoming, and hygienic environments across Thistle’s facilities. Daily tasks may include cleaning communal areas, offices, kitchens, and bathrooms; managing supplies such as cleaning products and consumables; and reporting any maintenance or safety concerns. The Domestic Assistant will follow established health and safety procedures, infection control guidelines, and organizational standards while working closely with colleagues to support a high-quality environment.

- Experience in cleaning, housekeeping, or domestic work in community, residential, healthcare, or similar settings.
- Knowledge of safe use of cleaning equipment and products, including basic health and safety and infection control practices.
- Strong attention to detail, reliability, and ability to follow schedules and procedures.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with colleagues, volunteers, and the people Thistle supports.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, managing time and tasks effectively.
- Willingness to learn and follow Thistle’s values and person-centered approach.
- Basic IT or record-keeping skills for completing checklists or reporting issues are an advantage.
- Previous experience in a charity, social care, or health-related environment is beneficial but not essential.
