Domestic Assistant
Domestics – Cleaning Staff
About the Role
Our team of Domestics ensures our buildings—including hospitals, NHS wards, patient bedrooms, and office areas—are clean, tidy, and provide a high standard of service for patients, visitors, and staff.
Every task you undertake contributes directly to better patient care, which is why we require excellence, attention to detail, and pride in your work.
Some areas you may work in involve clinical environments, such as cleaning rooms for patients who have mental health illness, learning disabilities, or brain injuries. Building relationships with both patients and healthcare staff will give you a sense of fulfillment as part of a supporting team. While working in challenging environments can be demanding, our staff find it both challenging and deeply rewarding.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning Tasks
- Carry out standard cleaning duties across multiple areas, including:
- Offices
- Public spaces (e.g., corridors)
- Patient-facing areas (shared wards, lounge spaces)
- Bedrooms and bathrooms
- Perform tasks such as:
- Dusting walls, ceilings, curtains, and curtain rails
- Dusting and polishing furniture and paintwork
- Vacuuming carpets
- Mopping floors
- Adhering to detailed work schedules without constant supervision

Safety and Compliance
- Use cleaning equipment and products safely, following COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines.
- Understand and follow infection prevention and control protocols at all times.
- Complete any required documentation, including quality checks.
Professional Conduct
- Treat patients, staff, and visitors with respect, care, and compassion—aligning with equality, diversity, and inclusion principles.
- Contribute to cleaning audits, inspections, and surveys when necessary.
- Participate in training programs to maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
