Full Job Description

Job Title: Domestic Assistant - Part time

Location: Underley Garden School, Kirkby Lonsdale LA6 2DZ

Hours: 15 hours per week | Monday to Friday | Shifts 6am - 9am or 3pm - 6pm flexibility available.

Salary: £8,864.25 per annum (not pro rata) + Travel allowance

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: September 2026

About the Role

As a Domestic Assistant, you'll help ensure our classrooms, residential homes, offices and communal areas are clean, hygienic and well presented, creating an environment where pupils and colleagues can feel safe and comfortable every day.

Working both independently and as part of a supportive team, you'll take pride in delivering high standards of cleanliness while helping us provide the very best environment for children and young people with special educational needs.

What you will be doing

  • Cleaning classrooms, residential areas, offices and communal spaces.
  • Sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors.
  • Dusting, polishing and cleaning fixtures and fittings.
  • Cleaning toilets, bathrooms, shower rooms and changing facilities.
  • Emptying bins and replenishing consumables including toilet rolls and paper towels.
  • Safely using cleaning equipment and machinery following training.
  • Reporting maintenance issues, damage or health and safety concerns.
  • Maintaining cleaning supplies and ensuring the safe storage of equipment and chemicals.

  • Able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Aware of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.
  • Physically able to carry out manual cleaning duties and move cleaning equipment.
  • Passionate about helping create a positive environment for children and young people.
  • Driving licence required

Underley Garden School is a large school with small class sizes, focusing on pupils, aged 5-19, who have a range of complex needs associated with autism and learning disabilities, including complex communication, sensory and behavioural needs associated with their disabilities.
