Donor Carer Driver – Blood Collection Team

Location: Aberdeen Blood Donor Centre, Foresterhill Road, Aberdeen Hours: Monday–Sunday, 28 hours per week Appointment Start Date: 1 April 2026 (as part of PSD Scotland transformation)

About Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland)

On 1 April 2026, NHS National Services Scotland (NSS) and NHS Education for Scotland (NES) merged to form PSD Scotland, a unified organisation delivering a stronger, more connected health and care service for Scotland.

We combine expertise to:

  • Accelerate national programmes supporting NHS service renewal and sustainability.
  • Provide staff with education, training, and tools to improve care.
  • Operate procurment, logistics, and vital services including blood, tissue, and cell processing.

The Role

Job Title: Donor Carer Driver (Blood Collection Team – Aberdeen)

This position involves direct clinical care of blood donors throughout the donation process, ensuring high standards of clinical/customer service and data accuracy while prioritising safety for donors and patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver person-centred donor care, offering support and reassurance at every stage of the donation process.
  • Perform and monitor venepunctures to obtain blood donations and samples in line with national clinical guidelines.
  • Transport staff and equipment to mobile donation sessions across the region, ensuring timely and safe delivery.
  • Undertake extensive travels throughout ** Aberdeen and nearby regions** (geographical knowledge is essential).

Note: While driving an HGV class C licence vehicle is part of the role, around 70% of weekly hours are spent on donor care/collection duties.


Work Requirements

  • Friendly, empathetic nature with a strong sense of teamwork.
  • Willingness to work variable hours, including weekends and late evenings.
  • Independent working with a good awareness of regional geography.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable shifts as required by the team.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid HGV ‘C’ licence (for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes) with active CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence)
  • Currently a member of the register of blood collection staff with up-to-date blood safety competencies
  • Completed all blood donation-specific training requirements

Personal Attributes

  • Passionate about donor well-being and promoting safe blood transfusions.
  • Strong communication skills – must assess donors’ needs clearly and offer support during the donation process.
  • Ability to work calmly and professionally with foresight, maintaining a precise and organised approach.

Additional Considerations

✅ Must hold / be eligible for work rights in the UK and remain resident within the UK for the role. ✅ Must undergo a PVG Scheme/Disclosure Scotland check. ✅ Any applicants with overseas residency (over 12 months in the last 5 years) must submit a criminal record check from their relevant country.
