Overview
Element has an opportunity for a Laboratory manager to join the team based in our Doors and Windows Testing Lab at Element Wednesbury. This is a great opportunity to develop your career within a Global TIC business.
The Doors and Windows Testing Lab offers security testing to pas24 standard, weather testing to British standard BS6375-1 and European standards for air permeability, water tightness, and wind resistance. It also provides operation and strength testing to British standard BS6375-2, including European standards for mechanical strength and durability.
Responsibilities
- Take primary responsibility in the running of the door & window laboratory
- Ensure all Quality and H&S procedures are fully adhered to by all staff members
- Regularly review performance of staff and feedback to enable them to develop
- Assist Business Unit Head in producing annual lab execution and sales & marketing plans to enable budget to be achieved
- Draft Capex proposals and take primary responsibility for pushing them through Capex approval process
- Improve NPS rating for Wednesbury by implementing customer improvements from client feedback
- Represent the company on industry/standard meetings, exhibitions and keeping abreast of industry developments and changing legislation
- Ensure accurate and systematic records are maintained in accordance with Element procedures
- Design test methods and test rigs for various standards
- Maintain a clean and hygienic working laboratory via 5S scheme
- Primary responsibility for implementing best practice ideas from across the Group into Wednesbury

Skills / Qualifications
- Experience of managing a team of people essential
- Laboratory/quality control experience necessary
- Educated to HNC/HND level in mechanical / materials engineering or equivalent discipline.
- Good practical and analytical skills.
- An inquisitive approach to product engineering and testing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to develop strong working relationships at all levels, both with colleagues and clients
- The ability to work well under pressure, prioritise and coordinate
- The ability to work to tight deadlines
- Excellent attention to detail
