Drainage Engineer – Van Pack (Southern Water Contract)

Role Overview

Position: Van Pack Drainage Engineer (Van operator) Location: Millbrook Depot (Southampton) – Initially, once competent, you may work door-to-door countrywide Hours: Monday–Friday, 45 hrs/week (flexible/on-call rotates on a 24/7 operational basis) Type: Permanent, full-time Salary: OTE £35,000 (100% basic + overtime) Benefits:

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-pressure water jetting to restore drainage systems for Southern Water clients across the region.
  • Diagnose & repair drainage faults (leaks, blockages, manhole/files faults).
  • Maintain machinery (vehicles, tools, and equipment) with accurate DI scripts & job reports on provided systems.
  • Record diagnostics & repairs through VISTEC and Salesforce platforms.
  • Ensure compliance with H&S protocols (PPE, lone-worker protocols, risk assessments).
  • Risk assess sites in real-time, adapting to site conditions.
  • Customer liaison – update clients on progress; represent Lanes’ high service standards.
  • Tool/equipment inspections pre- and post-use; report defects immediately.
  • Perform 80/21 assessments and demonstrate professional risk awareness.
  • Support colleagues ad-hoc as per managers’ direction.

  • Accuracy: Comply with SLA times and efficiency KPIs.

FULL INDUCTION & TRAINING provided, including PPE and Lanes-approved tools, with no prior drainage experience necessary.


About You

We look for:

  • A full UK driver’s license (* saudites & exisers apply too!).
  • Hard working, adaptable and able to work under pressure.
  • Strict adherence to H&S (training + assessment).
  • Commitment to continuous improvement—critique kills us!
  • Advanced team player. No gatekeeping—everyone grows here.

Desirable, not essential:

  • Experience with high-pressure jetting equipment.
  • Qualifications like NRSWA or confined space training.
