Purpose of the Role
As a Drainage Network Apprentice, you’ll be learning how to keep essential drainage systems running smoothly across homes, businesses, and public areas. You’ll gain hands-on experience working out on-site, using specialist equipment to find and fix problems like blockages or faults in drainage networks.
This is a practical, active role where no two days are the same. You’ll play a part in delivering a reliable service to customers by fixing problems quickly and effectively. Developing real technical skills and working as part of a team, you will build confidence responding to issues and solving problems in real time—all while working towards a recognised qualification.
Apprenticeship Information
- Level: Level 2 Drainage Network Operative Apprenticeship
- Duration: Approximately 18 months + EPA (End Point Assessment)
- Hourly Rate: £10.40 (The advertised salary range reflects variations in contracted weekly hours. Apprentice pay is calculated using a standard hourly rate, with annual salary adjusted according to the contractual hours)
- Qualification: Delivered through an approved training provider
- Dedicated study time: Provided as part of your working week
- Ongoing support: Available from your manager, mentor, and training provider

Key Responsibilities
- Learn how to inspect, clean, and maintain drainage and sewer systems
- Help identify and fix issues like blockages, leaks, or damage
- Support keeping systems working safely and effectively
- Work with specialist tools, vehicles, and equipment used in the industry
- Learn to use equipment safely and correctly on different job sites
- Help keep equipment in good working condition
- Support responding to urgent drainage issues and emergencies
- Help investigate the root cause of problems and resolve them effectively
- Work with your team to resolve issues as quickly as possible
- Follow safety rules, especially in challenging environments like highways or confined spaces
- Ensure all work is carried out safely for you, your team, and the public
- Interact with customers and the public in a professional and friendly manner
- Keep people informed about the work being carried out
- Represent the business positively while on-site
- Work as part of a team and support colleagues
- Build practical skills and confidence through real work experience
- Complete your apprenticeship training and apply what you learn on the job
Essential Requirements
Qualifications / Training:
- Maths and English at Grade 4 or above (or equivalent to Grade D-A at GCSE*) or Functional Skills Level 1.
