Senior Drainage Engineer / Specialist Role – WSP

Project areas focus on high-profile rail, highway, local authority, and aviation schemes across the UK. Our Drainage & Environmental Engineering specialists are sought after to deliver drainage designs—from concept to detail and construction support.
Responsibilities
Your role will include:
- Delivering civil engineering projects covering highway, rail, infrastructure, and site development schemes.
- Managing projects from concept to completion, ensuring they meet high technical standards, on schedule, and with commercial success.
- Providing drainage solutions for the UK’s most high-profile transport and infrastructure projects.
For Senior-Grade Roles
You’ll also lead:
- Client relationships, including attending progress meetings.
- Teams of drainage engineers, fostering technical growth and ensuring efficient project execution.

This role offers the chance to reshape the future of drainage engineering at WSP, contributing to significant transport projects with HS2, Network Rail, National Highways, local authorities, and beyond.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
Key Requirements
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status (or equivalent, where applicable).
Essential Experience
- Extensive drainage experience (sustainable solutions post-degree) for infrastructure/transport projects.
- Proficiency in drainage principles—foul, surface water, and asset management.
- Experience using Civil 3D and/or drainage modelling software (Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage).
- Expert knowledge of UK standards (Building Regulations, Design Codes, H&S regulations).
- Proven ability in project/team management, delivery to deadlines, and commercial success.
Preferred Technical Expertise
- Knowledge in:
- Highway/Rail/Airport drainage designs.
- Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS).
- Modelling tools (Causeway Flow, Microdrainage).
