Drainage Engineer – Water & Environmental Engineering Roles

About the Role

WSP is seeking Drainage Engineers at various experience levels who specialise in Water, Drainage, and Environmental Engineering for critical transportation infrastructure projects. We support high-profile rail, highway, local authority, and aviation projects across the UK, delivering drainage designs from concept through to detailed delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality civil engineering projects, including:
    • Highway, rail, infrastructure, and site development schemes
    • Projects from concept to completion, ensuring technical excellence, adherence to timelines, and commercial success
    • Broad range of drainage services for the UK’s most significant transportation and infrastructure projects
  • Senior/Specialist Responsibilities:
    • Lead client relationships and attend progress meetings
    • Manage teams of drainage engineers, mentoring their technical development and project allocation

At WSP, you’ll be:

  • A key part of a vibrant, evolving team focused on high-impact projects that pioneer developement in sustainable drainage.

Requirements

Essential

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (or degree qualification, depending on grade)
  • Extensive experience designing sustainable drainage systems post-qualification
  • Profound knowledge of:
    • Drainage design principles
    • Infrastructure and environmental drainage solutions
    • Civil 3D and Causeway Flow (or MicroDrainage): Experience with drainage modelling software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical standards expertise:
    • Understanding of UK Building Regulations, Design Standards, Codes of Practice and Health & Safety laws
  • Project and team management proficiency: Successfully delivering projects/programs, meeting quality/commercial targets

Technical Experience Preferences

  • Highway, rail, or airport drainage capabilities
  • Asset management and foul water systems
  • Sustainable/subsurface drainage design
  • *Specialisation in:
    • Drainage software (Causeway Flow or MicroDrainage)
