Drainage Engineer Vacancies – WSP
WSP are seeking Drainage Engineers at all grades who specialise in Water, Drainage and Environmental Engineering to expand their expertise and technical capability. Based across the UK, this role enables you to shape projects on some of the country’s most significant rail, highway, aviation, and local authority infrastructure schemes—delivering drainage designs from concept through to detail.
About the Role
WSP is looking for driven, innovative engineers to join their national sustainable water management team—a group of technical leaders delivering high-impact solutions for high-profile infrastructure clients. This is an opportunity to make a lasting mark on drainage solutions, collaborating on landmark projects while growing your expertise in sustainable drainage design, modelling, and infrastructure development.
Key Responsibilities
Core Duties (All Grades)
- Deliver a diverse range of civil engineering projects including highway, rail, infrastructure, and site development schemes.
- Supporthigh-profile projects like HS2, Network Rail, and National Highways, ensuring designs meet:
- Technical excellence
- Stakeholder requirements
- Commercial success
- Timeline fidelity
- Design and manage drainage solutions for:
- Highway
- Rail
- Aviation (airport drainage)
- Asset management
- Sustainable foul and surface water management
- Foul water systems

Senior/Lead Roles: Additional Responsibilities (Associate Director to Senior Consultant Grade)
- Lead client relationships and chair project progress meetings.
- Manage engineering teams, mentoring peers and ensuring skilled resource allocation.
- Drive technical innovation and shape the future capability of WSP’s drainage team.
What We’re Looking For
Experience & Qualifications
- Professional registration (Chartered or Incorporated Engineer) or relevant degree (depending on band).
- Diverse, hands-on experience in designing sustainable drainage solutions.
- Strong understanding of:
- Drainage design principles
- Sustainable water management techniques
- UK Building Regulations
- Technical standards & Codes of Practice
- Proficient in Civil 3D or Causeway Flow/MicroDrainage software.
- Project/programme management expertise with commercial clarity.
Technical Expertise (Demonstrable in one+ areas)
- Highway/rail/airport drainage
- Sustainable water management (foul/surface water entities in highways)
- Drainage modelling (tools: Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage)
- Asset lifecycle management
Soft Skills
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Collaborative approach to problem-solving.
