The Vacancy
Central Alliance part of the RSK Group have an exciting new opportunity for a Driller/CPT Operator to join their team in Normanton, UK.
The Role:
Accountable to the Principal Engineer, this role would suit an experienced driller or CPT Operator with a passion for working outdoors and travelling, combined with a proactive, 'can-do' attitude. We are seeking someone who enjoys taking ownership of projects, leading by example and delivering high-quality work safely and efficiently.
When not on site, you will be required to commute daily to the Don Pedro Avenue Yard or Wakefield Office, so we are ideally looking for someone that lives within a reasonable daily commuting distance of the office, or someone that is willing to relocate.
As the successful candidate, you will sit within the Instrumentation & Monitoring division, delivering Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) services on a wide variety of geotechnical and infrastructure projects across the UK, or at times, occasionally abroad. Alongside delivering projects, you will play an important role in coaching and developing junior members of the team, helping to maintain the high standards at Central Alliance is known for.
Accountabilities:
- Delivering safe, high-quality Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) services in accordance with project specifications, client requirements and industry standards.
- Leading site mobilisation, set up and demobilisation activities, ensuring work is delivered safely, efficiently and to specification.
- Operating, inspecting and carrying out routine maintenance of CPT rigs, equipment and tooling.
- Collecting, processing and reviewing CPT data, producing accurate field reports and ensuring data quality throughout project delivery.
- Completing project documentation to a high standard as and when required, including but not limited to inspections, SHE documentation and daily progress reports.
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members, promoting safe working practices and developing technical capability.
- Upholding excellent safety and housekeeping standards, representing our company professionally on every site.
- Assisting with the maintenance and organisation of the yard, equipment and vehicles when not working on site.
- Supporting business improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve safety, efficiency and ways of working.
- Working across the UK to travel to client sites, as and when required.
- Adhering to all RSK company policies and complying with client policies and procedures when on site.

- Previous experience operating Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) equipment or similar ground investigation/drilling equipment.
- Flexible approach to work, including adaptability in hours and willingness to travel or work away from home up to 100% of the working week.
- Good understanding of health, safety, environmental and quality standards within a site-based environment.
- Proactive, positive attitude, adaptable, with resilient to work in diverse environmental conditions / able to handle the physical demands of the role.
- Ability to follow instructions, work to deadlines, work part of a multi-disciplinary team and also work solo, using own initiative.
- Strong communication, and organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and achieve targets.
- Computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office 365.
- Willingness to attend and pass internal and industry-recognised external training courses. These may include, but are not limited to, PTS, NRASWA, CCNSG, CSCS, CAT, First Aid, and manual handling training.
- Full UK Driver’s Licence (Manual)
- Ability to conduct business in a professional and polite manner at all times, adhering to and promoting our Core Values.
