Job Description Summary

This is a Full Time, Fixed Term position for 3 years due to funding. Strength to Change are seeking motivated and skilled practitioners to join our DRIVE team, delivering an innovative, evidence-based approach to tackling high-risk high harm domestic abuse.

As a DRIVE Case Practitioner, you will work directly with perpetrators of domestic abuse who pose a high risk of harm, aiming to reduce risk, improve safety for victims and children, and challenge harmful behaviours. This is a key role within a multi-agency framework, ensuring coordinated intervention and safeguarding. You will manage a complex caseload, working closely with the integrated victim service, professionals, and partner agencies to achieve meaningful and sustained change.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work intensively with high-risk high harm perpetrators of domestic abuse to reduce risk and work towards achieving transformational behaviour change.
  • Carry out risk assessments, risk management plans and engagement strategies
  • Develop and deliver individual intervention plans
  • Work collaboratively within a multi-agency environment (police, probation, social care, Domestic abuse services)
  • Liaise closely with the integrated victim services to ensure victim safety remains central
  • Maintain accurate case records and contribute to monitoring and evaluation of outcomes
  • Attend and contribute to meetings such as MARAC, MATAC, DRIVE PANEL and other safeguarding arrangements.
  • Promote a trauma-informed, strengths-based and accountable practice approach

You will be

ROLE AND PURPOSE

The DRIVE Case Practitioner will work within the Strength to Change service and will actively strive to work on a one-to-one basis with perpetrators who have been identified as high risk and high harm to pro-actively secure engagement, influence attitudinal and behavioural change and connect with partner agency services.

To do this, the DRIVE Case Practitioner will work with local agencies to design a co-ordinated, strategic individual risk management, reduction and intervention plan to address identified needs and risks and promote understanding of the impact of abusive behaviours on victims and their children.

Throughout the intervention the DRIVE Case Practitioner will work closely with the co-located partner service to review risk, develop trauma informed client centred safety and support plans and improve outcomes for all family members involved.

The DRIVE Case Practitioner will be responsible for championing the DRIVE programme and delivering outcomes, working typically for up to 12 months to achieve behaviour change with each client.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Manage a caseload focusing on high-risk perpetrators of domestic abuse to provide an assertive, medium to long term service, based on thorough assessment and individual support planning that adopts the principles of the ‘Support or/and Disrupt’ concept. Develop strategies that will disrupt the continued risk posed by clients. Ensure that clients understand that the service and partner agencies will hold them accountable for continued abusive behaviour towards others. Remain up-to-date and compliant with all relevant legislation, including organisational procedures, policies and professional codes of conduct and practice guidance in order to uphold standards of best practice.
  2. Maintain a proactive response to clients, continuously providing positive options for behaviour change throughout the clients’ time in the DRIVE project. Use combinations of motivational work, relationship building and a broad range of therapeutic skills to engage clients to addressing their abusive behaviour. Motivate and support clients to address the broad range of needs that may contribute to the risk that they pose to others or act as barrier for them to address that risk. e.g. housing, substance use etc.
  3. Contributes to continuous professional development activity, through positive participation in supervision, case management, case reviews, clinical supervision, reflective practice, training, workshops, coaching & mentoring, to ensure that colleagues and wider agency staff maintain and develop their knowledge and skills, in order to sustain safe, effective, ethical and lawful practice in relation to victims / survivors and their children and perpetrators.
  4. To provide specialist advice, support and guidance (co working cases if required) to professionals on all aspects of case management for victims and their children impacted by domestic abuse, and perpetrators. This can be completed through multiple communication methods - in person, email, reports, and or chairing meetings to ensure effective co-ordination of support and services. Advise on, and if required, take the lead on matters in relation to safeguarding adults and children. To prepare and submit reports to the courts, CYPS and other agencies in order to advise on issues in relation to safeguarding and risk management
  5. Ensure that there is a consistent delivery of services to the identified perpetrators of domestic abuse, including comprehensive risk assessment, support planning, referrals to other agencies and Multi -Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC). Undertake comprehensive assessment of risk, needs and attitudes to inform individual client intervention plans. Continually consider the welfare and safety of adult, children and young people victims in every aspect of all work undertaken, addressing perpetrator parenting needs as and when appropriate and taking action to safeguard children and adults. Be competent in defensible decision making, recording and being held accountable.
  6. Develop and maintain effective partnership working with all partner agencies and actively work to embed effective case Management into multi-agency responses to domestic abuse. Effective implementation of institutional advocacy through pro-socially challenging partner agencies, acknowledging best practice and striving for change to benefit the individual, the service and the sector.
  7. Provide a single point of proactive and regular contact for a range of professionals involved with the client. Support other professionals in responding to clients in a way that is coterminous with the aims and ethos of Strength to Change DRIVE Project. Attend and represent the service at Multi Agency Public Protection (MAPPA), Multi- Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), CYPS Case Conferences, strategy meetings, early help meetings, PITSTOP or other multi-agency meetings and forums to research, triage and share information and make decisions on behalf of services and advocate on behalf of victims. Ensure effective operational joint working and problem solving to ensure swift and effective safeguarding interventions are provided. Work closely with the victim /survivor Domestic Abuse Support service, supporting the partners, ex-partners and new partners and family members of clients in management of risk and developing intervention plans, as directed by policy and process.
  8. Represent the service at operational multi-agency meetings, feeding back initiatives and outcomes to the team and contribute to the evaluation of the quality of activities these services offer. Contribute to regular service reviews which include monitoring data, evaluations, intake and output policy, and practice and workload reviews for the whole service to inform service developments and improvements are implemented.
  9. Comply with safeguarding and information sharing policies, ensuring that clients and colleagues understand and comply with relevant safeguarding frameworks.
  10. Oversees the creation, accurate recording, storage, maintenance, retrieval and updating of case records/data both manually and electronically on local and national case management systems (Iizuka) and that records are kept in compliance with council policies, service retention procedures and General Data Protection Regulations and information sharing legislation and protocols. Makes strategic decisions around levels of sensitivity and confidentiality on case management system appropriately to safeguard clients personal and sensitive information.
