As a Driver and Ground Handler, you’ll help create a safe and secure world at Babcock's RAF Benson site. This unique role involves driving a variety of vehicles and delivering pivotal transport solutions for RAF personnel, equipment, and units—combining both operational responsibility and teamwork.
The Role
A truly round-the-clock position, this role brings you into a tight-knit Transport Services team at RAF Benson. While the demands are tactical, your contributions keep mission-critical movements efficient, safe, and punctual.
Daily Responsibilities:
- Transport RAF recruits, personnel, and local operators using cars, minibuses, rigid, and articulated large goods vehicles (LGVs).
- Complete meticulous monthly vehicle fleet inspections, documenting any issues via the Transport Control Office.
- Prepare vehicles for high-visibility events such as graduation ceremonies.
- Uniform is provided and must be worn in compliance with company policy.
The role operates primarily at RAF Benson, Oxfordshire, adhering to an average 39-hour/week shift schedule. Shifts range across morning, daytime, and evening hours, tailored to operational needs (with occupancy of preferences prioritised where suitable). Flexibility aids availability during peak missions.

Experience and Requirements
Essential:
- Experience managing a mix of LVC salary-deep fleet operations.
- Proficient understanding of Driver’s Hours Regulations (under EU Directive 561/2006).
- CAT B Driver’s Licence.
- LGV DVLA Category C Licence.
- Registration for a digital tachograph.
Security Clearance:
- Achieve BPSS: Accredited DBS and maintain EDBS clearance – a mandatory perk to undertake all tasks smoothly.
